You may of seem some Microsoft Interview questions before. Microsoft interviews wouldnt be what you called a conventional interview, they can ask sometimes very strange questions that seemingly have nothing to do with the Job, just to seed out the creative thinkers from the "1+2=3" thinkers.

This is a sample of a (real) Microsoft Interview Question:

There are 4 women who want to cross a bridge. They all begin on the same side. You have 17 minutes to get all of them across to the other side. It is night. There is one flashlight. A maximum of two people can cross at one time. Any party who crosses, either 1 or 2 people, must have the flashlight with them. The flashlight must be walked back and forth, it cannot be thrown, etc. Each woman walks at a different speed. A pair must walk together at the rate of the slower woman's pace.
Woman 1: 1 minute to cross
Woman 2: 2 minutes to cross
Woman 3: 5 minutes to cross
Woman 4: 10 minutes to cross

Yeah Microsoft seems to be going for the "creative" thinkers now rather than people with the most experience.

And if I was put on the spot with that question, to try and save all dignity I would get up and walk straight out.

there are two rooms
one room has three light switches
and the other has three light bulbs
u are in the light switch room and you can only go into the light bulb room once

how do you find out which light switch matches with which light bulb?

Ok say the switches are in a line like this: O O O
You turn the first 2 on...
Leave them for ten minutes or whatever and turn the one on the very left off
but leave the middle one on.
Then turn on the switch on the very right and then quickly go to the room where the bulbs are

Touch a bulb.
If the bulb is hot and is not turned on it's switch is the one on the very left.
If the bulb is hot and on, it's switch is the middle one of the three.
If however a bulb is on and relatively cool then it belongs to the switch on the very right

And Whalla!!

i was thinking, just quickly turn on and off one light switch until ur pretty confident the bulb would've blown, then switch one of the remaining switches on but how long can u do that until the bulb blows?

Five pirates have 100 gold coins. they have to divide up the loot. in order of seniority (suppose pirate 5 is most senior, pirate 1 is least senior), the most senior pirate proposes a distribution of the loot. they vote and if at least 50% accept the proposal, the loot is divided as proposed. otherwise the most senior pirate is executed, and they start over again with the next senior pirate. what solution does the most senior pirate propose? assume they are very intelligent and extremely greedy (and that they would prefer not to die).

Theyre called "Lateral thinking" Questions, basically to make you think sideways, up down or the opposite way to what conventional people think. Not many people have the ability to think in such a fashion, quite amazing really because they apply it to every aspect of their lives... I do know a couple of good lateral thinkers, and most of them have a great sense of humour.

Problem: two trains enter a tunnel 200 miles long (yeah, its a big tunnel) travelling at 100 mph at the same time from opposite directions. as soon as they enter the tunnel a supersonic bee flying at 1000 mph starts from one train and heads toward the other one. as soon as it reaches the other one it turns around and heads back toward the first, going back and forth between the trains until the trains collide in a fiery explosion in the middle of the tunnel (the bee survives). how far did the bee travel?

1000miles it takes 1 hr for the trains to collide, and the bee travels at 1000mph
