So tell us - what exactly will we be doing on mentor training day that will take 6 hours?! (assuming SCMP isn't the only one to be going on for this long)

*cries* but this is MAC! I thought we didn't do that sort of intense hardcore serious-serious-serious stuff over here?

.. and I need to leave early to start work at 3:30 :( (hours are not negotiable)

orientation days (when mentors work with first yr) are from 21st -> 24th. the exact date for orientation day varies from different department

ie ACES, ELS are on 21st
HUM, SCMP are on 22nd
Psy & Ling on 23rd
and ICS is on 24th..

the one SAM indicated27->2/3), is first wk of uni(also known as o-week)

It was a shorter day last year, around 3 hours, but it was believed to be too short. Personally, time flew by today on our training day, and none of our mentors seemed bored. We kept them entertained with lots and lots of lollies (ta Jamie!)... they only seemed to lose their momentum around 2.30pm when we had the "campus tour" (I only took my group to the new buildings because everyone knows where everything else is!).

Overall, it all seemed pretty well planned by Sandie - nothing dragged on for too long. The downsides were the SAM and library tour, and the god-awful lunch: TAKE YOUR OWN LUNCH THIS YEAR!! The "sausages" that were provided were... odd. Not quite sure if they were actually sausages, and they didnt look cooked and were all greasy.

Thanks for the lunch tip.

You don't want to see a Scandinavian that's hungry. :)

so actual classes start on the 27th?
Yes, that's correct.

imo, they should rename the mentor-orientation day to something else...

Note that most classes don't have tutorials first week -- however, if your tutorial is before your first lecture (sometimes happens), still try to go to the room briefly to see if the tutor's there. I remember going to the first-week tutorial -- the tutor was there just in case, which was a really good opportunity to chat, ask questions, and such.

Haha, I thought it could've been someone from here!

Anyway, this might have been answered before, but how are you guys gonna do the tours with the uni in the state that it's in?

I'm planning on doing mine like this:

"C'mon kids, where do you want to go next? E7B? great! Let's walk along the magic path for a bit... and now we're at the library! IT'S MAGIC!"
