Has anyone noticed a trend in conversations with people that are unfamiliar with you? It ususally goes:
1.Intro
2.School
3.People You know that are common

Does any1 else notice this trend or am i just socially boring?

And this applies to people you've just met? "Hello, my name is Dick. Lets talk about the theories of evolution instead of how great the weather is."

it would be rather pompous and arrogant to waltz into a virgin meeting with someone and begin accosting them with a slew of philosophical "ideas", don't you think?

+1

Although after all this:
1.Intro
2.School
3.People You know that are common

... then you can talk about other things/try to crack them up

yeah thats kinda like me... =/

my conversations with new people normally goes:

intro..
school stuffs...
more school - related stuff..
what they will do after school...
sport...
holidays...

and then after a while it gets a little bit awkward for a few seconds until I can come up with some random stuff to talk about.

Any tips for me?

Did you know that when there's an awkward silence a gay baby is born.

They'll laugh but if they don't, then you've got something to talk about :)

Yeah i hate the standard questions you get asked, its why i try and start off a conversation in an interesting way. i usually get into some good conversations within 5mins, it puts some people off but the interesting people you can see their eyes light up as they realize you arent just going to ask them the same boring questions like every other drone. An intelectual conversation is far more satisfying that realizing someone you know went to their school....

when i'm drunk/stoned this is basically all i do. find people to discuss the 'philosophies' on our minds with. but more like.. anti-philosophical-philosophy. knawmean? really just trying to find ideas with people to work into lyrics.

i cant remember the last conversation i had that went like that.
noone i've found cares what school you go to/went to or even what university course you do. that normally occurs as an afterthought.
people you know in common is normally a starting point, but then things go off in a wild flurry...or flop, depending on the quality of the person
