Hey,
Have been discussing this with my sister for a while. A UAI roughly above 98 is required for Veterinary Science and this is based on soley the UAI. Medicine @ UWS requires one of at least 92m interviews and UMAT.
I have been tossing up between these two goals after the HSC. Any useful advice, guys? Thanks

Both are going to be quite difficult to get into as its so competitive. go for the one you are more interested in, otherwise if you dont get into one fall back on the other, or have a backup plan.

ones going to be treating animals the other is treating people. your choice.

Those courses are incredible different. I mean...ones vet...and ones med... do you like treating people or animals?

This shouldn't be a UAI/getting through yr 12 easily decision, its a what youd like to devote your life to decision.

ditto what dave said...
this is your future and you're going to base it on which one is the easier option...
While the whole 'nurturing' aspect is inherrent to both careers, i believe being a vet and being a doctor are two completely different things...

tho.. i;m not particularly concerned about you.
MORE about the animals/people you're going to treat..

hopefully even UWS will pick this up in their interview process...

Umm...do what you want?
what does the difficulty of a course have to do with anything?

Ok, I'll give you some advice that I received which is quite realistic, if you find it hard to decide between being a doctor or a vet.

If you want to do medicine and become a doctor:
"It starts with the patient, continues with the patient, and ends with the patient".

Hippocratic Oath: (for a doctor)
1) i will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps i walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

2) i will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures, which are required, avoiding those twin traps of over treatment and therapeutic nihilism.

3) i will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweight the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug

4) i will not be ashamed to say "i know not", or will i fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.

5) i will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed for me that the world may know. most especially must i tread with care in matters of life and death. if it is given to me to save a life, all thanks. but it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsiblity must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. above all, i must not play at God.

6) i will rememeber that i do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a SICK HUMAN BEING! whose illness may affect the person;s familiy and economic stability. my responsibility includes these related problems, if i am to care adequately for the sick.

7) i will prevent disease whenever i can, for prevention is preferable to cure.

8) i will rememeber that i remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body and as well as the infirm

IF IT SHOULD BE

1) If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

2) You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

3) We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

4) Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

5) I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

6) Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

UAI =/= difficulty. UAI = competition.

Don't do it based on difficulty. Do it based on interest in the career. Take a gap year and spend time with a GP and a vet if you have to (or do it during your holidays).

I think it might have been the "Chim" part, I haven't heard that name either actually but it sounds a little Asian.
