Depends on the unis you are comparing. In general, they're pretty much the same.

Now I cant decide what uni to put first on my preferences for Med Sci.

I had USYD at first, but that first year stuff sounds really boring. And then I was going to put ANU first...but now people are telling me that it sucks!

I guess ill just have to get intom Medicine then lol...

i strongly advise you to do it at CSU or UTS because the other degree's are not accredited by the australian institue of medical scientist and you may have trouble finding jobs as a scientific officer/hospital scientist

haha you'll have a hard time working in a public hospitals path lab as a scientific officer because AIMS or the "unknown institute lol" accredits medical scientists in australia, the highest job you can get in a path lab without it is senior technical officer.

But yes you'll find a job with class one honors..you'll find a job in research

On the upside there is rumours from up above that due to the fact people arnt becoming pathologists anymore there is a strong suggestion that soon in the future a masters degree in medical science will allow the scientist to diagnosis personally, histopathology and leukemia's which currently we palm off to the pathologist..so that would be much like the advanced practioners in the UK that arnt doctors but scientists like us...

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was dissing AIMS, but I've seriously never heard of it. Some of the recruitment ads I've read in the past never mentioned that a science graduate must come from an AIMS-associated institute.

But luckily for me, I'm not interested in working in a path lab processing faecal specimens and patients' sputums or counting the number of infiltrating neutrophils in a tissue sample.

But I found out yesterday that I just got a job working in a Pathology lab as entry level Lab-Assistant. w00tness, before I even finished my 1st year!

Haha, UMAT in 2006 + UWS application = a match made in heaven. Love my course - and you can apply for it even after you've done a degree, because it's an undergraduate course, you don't have to sit GAMSAT. Got to use my UAI, and none of my uni marks, thank God.

And I'm really not going back to Sydney, haha..

I wonder what UTS & UNSW Med Science are like ?
I couldn`t make it to UTS open day , but UNSW I`ll be going to tomorrow

There are a few MedSc degrees to pick from.

Bachelor of Medical Science - which has three branches. You can specialise in Pathology, Clinical Science or just do a generic Med Sc.

Bachelor of Medical Science (Pathology)/Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology - 4 year degree which is what I'm doing

Bachelor of Medical Science/Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology - same as above, only it's a generic med sc degree instead of a pathology specialisation.

They're all based at CSU Wagga, unless you're feeling ambitious then you can do it by distance ed.

It's great, I'm doing mine by distance education. The hardest part is motivating yourself to do the work required, it's easy to fall into the rut of 'I'll do it later'.
