My chemistry teacher said that she know many people that didn't get directly into pharmacy but went through Med Science or any other science. Anyone done it?? She also said you can go from completing Med Sc. Yr 1 to Pharmacy Yr 2. What is the reliability of this?? Would you be able to do the pharmacy subjects in Med Sc to make this possible.......

Thanks

well...getting in through that route i hear is very competitive, but in recent years i have seen that there has been a decline of the cut off ~91 this year. and it was 93.50 around a year before that. it used to be around 95 a few years ago but since they increased seating the cuts have gone down.

if you do med science in the first year you will do two subjects called "Human Biology" and "Molecular Biology" they are the only two subjects you willl probbly get credit for if you transfer after 1st year. you will still have to do 6 other 1st year subjects that are specially for pharmacy only.

To elaborate on competitive, the Faculty itself has said a distinction average is what most successful transfer applicants have gotten.

Any other backdoor entries to BPharm? Do excuse me for being such a dumb cluck, but would a general science degree, specialising in pharmacology, suffice for a master of Pharmacy?

Majoring in pharmacology should be fine. Have you looked at the prereqs?

Master of Pharmacy - Future Students - The University of Sydney

Obviously you'd have satisfied the pharmacology requirement, and probably biology and chemistry too. The only other "backdoor" ways of getting in would be via transfer, either from another degree (can be from any uni, not just USYD) or a pharmacy degree at another uni.

Okay, so what's the forecast for the cut-off UAI for BPharm at USYD? For 208, it was approx. 93; 2009, it was 91.90 - hopefully, for 2010, the UAI cut-off will drop another notch (yes, that's how intellectually handicapped I am).

No-one can tell. You've just semi-answered your own question--these cutoffs are guides as to what you can expect.

its probably not going to drop, my guess it only dropped this much since they removed the b rural entry as well as removed DFEE seats to produce more seats for Commonwealth supported seats, although im now hearing that since there has been a recent drop in standard they are planning to introduce the umat, instead of the stat for admissions into pharmacy. i think it was next year or the year after. something like that anyway.

anonymos do you know how hard it would be for a physio student from usyd to transfer to pharm at usyd?

also since you do pharmacy, do you agree with the private practice net income posted up in my only other thread?

Only two weeks to go until my STAT exam turns around.

I think I'm gonna have a psychological breakdown, contemplating on whether I will make it into Pharmacy at USYD.

it would be very difficult, because Physio is a very intensive course, containing alot of anatomy, its basically the study of "what". to get into pharmacy from that route requires you to get a D average, although not unheard of at uni, its a difficult benchmark to obtain, and you will find that even if you study harder at uni you wont perform alot better. alot of people who got 90+ in subjects at high school sometimes struggle with university, and maybe get 65ish, unless theyre naturally gifted in the subject area they may do better.

in phrmacy you have a completely different approach to what your studying than physio, since your studying the "How" of whatever your studying, you most frequently study physiology, which is the study of how things work, not necessarily what it is that is doing the job.

as for your private practice, it says average net salary i think for physio is 115K, im not sure about physio, but for pharmacy if you own your own its around 200K, or more depending on the location and business.

cutoff in 2007 for pharm was 95.15, i got 94.00 uai. cutoff was like 93.something in 2008 which was a massive slap in the face -__-
