If you are a maths teacher (or even a HSC marker) (or even a student who can help), do you know what "TE" means also what about "J".

The context of these symbols is that they appeared in my marked HSC responses and I have no idea what they mean.

Does anyone have any ideas?

J means integer. And i think TE is transcendental numbers. Transcendental numbers are irrational numbers.

Oh yeah i remember now, j is something to do with complex numbers and quaternion (i,j) but that is lower j. The marker wrote capital J. Also i thought Z written with two lines is integer, not J, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integer

now that i think about it, it may not be a mathematical term, hence would would not know unless you were a hsc marker.

The J was used like 4 times in my 2U exam by the marker (1st occurance is they wrote it below my word "alternate" and it is not a spelling correction) (another occurance is in Q10 2U, b) ii, and its just next to a heap of algebra) it does not really make any sense.

The TE appears also in the same question near a line of algebra. In this context i don't think it means Transcendental numbers. becasue i don't see why they would write that next to my algebra.

I got it back because i submitted a FOI request (with the appropriate wording) to the BOS. I paid my $30 fee and they send me photocopies of all my exam papers. They then issued me with $15 is fee's reduction. If you really want i can scan it and upload it..

Wow thanks, that all makes sense now. TE = Transcription Error. I'll scan and upload it on Monday. i don't have a scanner now. I think in my case it means Justify. but i'll upload the pages.

but the positioning of the J would suggest otherwise. are all the bos official acronyms shown above, or are there more? if so what are the other ones?
