Nup...definately not..
General maths scale down a lot if you do below 85 in hsc.. mostly if you get high in general you will scale up ... this also based on how the students will do in hsc.

2u maths will scale down if you get below 80, maybe it will scale down, also based on the students.

do you mean 80 as in moderated mark? or 80 as in raw mark 80/120 ?

Only a couple of subject actually scale up, its the degree of scaling down that matters. a few years ago, a 90 in general scaled to an 80, while a 90 in mathamatics scaled to around an 84/5. ext 1 maths remains the same (ie 90 stays at 90) and Ext 2 scales up slightly. but it all depends on how well you go, obviously the easier subjects will punish you harder for going worse. but the band 6 scaling can give you a rough estimate of how each will scale.

That's NOT true. You can see this by looking at the "Raw Marks" thread from 2004

EDIT: it scales UP not down

I think a lot of people get mixed up thinking that the UAC scales your moderated HSC mark, in which case yes a lot of subjects would 'scale down'.

With a majority of subjects the raw mark does get scaled up but in most cases not nearly as much as when ur mark is moderated by the boardofstudies.

It seems that some people here are misinformed.
Unlike English (Advanced) and English (Standard) which share 40% common content, General Mathematics and Mathematics do NOT scale equally. There is NO mark cut-off such that a mark below that cut-off will be scaled down and a mark above that cut-off will be scaled up. Keep in mind it is the RAW MARKS that are scaled, and these are NOT released to the public or the corresponding student (until some people fought for them in a court case but that's another issue).
Table A3 from the UAC data does NOT reveal raw marks and hence you cannot accurately tell which courses "scale up" and which "scale down" when referring to the table.
Scaling is dependent on the candidature's performance relative to the entire state. Generally speaking, Mathematics students usually have a stronger and more talented candidature than General Mathematics students hence RAW MARKS in Mathematics are adjusted/scaled to better marks than the same raw mark in General Mathematics.
