Also to further add to the tripling every 9 minutes, this isn't so. The plants grow at the same time, with only a 3 second difference between them. Working this out by hand will not be easy.
Race you Sir Eldar?

Okay. Let me finally get this straight. You have three blocks to plant.

You plant them and have potentially 3 trees once germinated? You now have 3 trees (each with 3 blocks), hence 9 blocks. You split those 9 blocks? Correct?
Yes.

Then thoses grow and so on. Also include a time delay ad mentioned in my original post

Once they split into nine. Each one becomes a base? So there's two left to plant for each base?

Tell me what you understand so far.
You are aiming to build a cactus. You have three blocks with you. You plant each one of the three blocks. So they are your base of your plant.

Let "_" be a block.

So now you have:

_ _ _ (Each represents a different base. Hence 3 potential plants.)

Those are your base. You want to plant two more on each of them. So your aim is to have three plants.

_ _ _
_ _ _
_ _ _

You don't plant onto already made blocks.

- - - goes to after nine minutes if growing

- - -
- - -
- - -

Then you knock it all down and plant it to make this

- - - - - - - - - then they grow

So it takes 9 minutes to grow the first batch and then 3 minutes each of the two remaining lines to grow next batch?

Yes. Remember the time intervals between each plant

- - -

After 6 minutes if growing

- - -
- - -
- - -

Knock them all down to form this ( each plant here takes 3 seconds)

- - - - - - - - -
After more growing

- - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - -

Knock them down again to get this

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - and so on

You start with 3

Each time you plant a fresh one it takes 3 seconds, and after three minutes it grows one block then you follow above diagram

So _ _ _ starts at time = zero? When you knock them down, do you know ALL blocks?

You knock the whole cube tree in two seconds ( cube tree being the fully grown 3 blocks stack)

Wow, this is still going on. Spi, things would be much easier if you tried Minecraft or if Powlmao provided you with screenshots or a screencast.
