Yep Macbook 2009 13 inch works like a charm :)
And what Brontecat said are all spot on.

Just try not to put any games on it or you'll get distracted lol.

shameless promotion:
http://community.boredofstudies.org/576/sell/233678/slate-tablet-pc.html

anyway wondering if i should just keep that.

i'd be doing law/commerce at uni, probably accounting as my major for commerce.

would be better to just use the tablet then?
i also can't play any games on it for the lack of a keyboard. (id carry around one of those foldable usb keyboards though)

i can write on it instead of typing,
jot down notes straight into the powerpoint slides,
use this program that transfers speech to text.
.though i'd imagine most of the professors would have thick accents

its 1.5kg, and has a core 2 duo processor .

so any of you maths/science people wanna trade?

Writing straight into it would be extremely useful if you were in a lecture, in my opinion. I would just prefer the version which was also a normal laptop as well...

How much are they?

Link to good/cheap site or brand... I would like to have a look.

besides the motion? =D.

Archos 9 tablet and its Windows 7 Starter Edition unboxed (video) -- Engadget

HP is going to launch a really good one which would be under US $1k in the states..so in australia.. $2.5k+ =/.

Fujitsu T4310 Lifebook Tablet Notebook Intel Centrino 2 T6600 with Win 7 Pro

harris tech had a sale on a few tablets.
real cheap too.

historically, for convertible tablet PCS, fujitsu have been the market leaders.
toshiba also has a piece (r400).. HP will soon have a piece too. (they had the T1100 or whatever it was.. has aged)

in slate tablets, motion is the market leader, with fujitsu also having a peice.

Macbooks FTW. They're reliable, have very long battery power and they look sexy as hell. Seems to be the most popular laptop at USyd.

Hm, aren't there lecture rooms that aren't laptop friendly?

Like I was at the Carslaw Building (USYD) and they had pretty small errr.. writing.. beam.. table plank thing, in the lecture theatre. :p Not to mention the seats were equivalent to park benches. I don't think laptops over a certain size would be good to use in that instance.

If you're doing a course like architecture or some engineering ones don't bother with a Mac thinking you can run programs off bootcamp.
They'll struggle unless you're getting the higher spec ones. Macs are only fast when you're running os x or watever :(
