I've tried looking and I cant find any resources on the different colouration in each are of the kidney and the reasons for it..

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean area of the kidney? Like why the Cortex and Medulla are different colours?

yeah, it says 'indicate in your diagram the different colouration in each area and explain the reasons for it'.

Cortex - dark red in colour due to the many capillaries of the nephrons.

Medulla - lighter in colour due to less blood vessels, with many collecting ducts carrying urine to the ureter.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Rememeber that it is red because of the capillaries because of the oxygen that the blood carries. Oxygen-rich areas is what is generally termed for this areas and is a more precise term to use. So the best answer would be that the Cortex is a rich red as it contains main capillaries, making it an oxygen-rich area whilst the Medulla is pinkish as it does not have as high a level of oxygen present.
