The Psych department are looking for a new professor, paid at ~$130,000+ pa.

I figured they'd be paid pretty well, but I'm also somewhat shocked that it's that high ...

Yeh, I've looked through that site before.

Ancient History research fellows get 80,000 available from their first PhD year.

That being said, think about how many professors are in a depatrment- between 1 and 3. You have to be pretty academically outstanding =(

I didn't know it would be that high! I do think it's an elite job though, there aren't many unis in Australia and only limited spaces in each uni.

wow. thats good money. they deserve it though, it would take heaps to get there so lots of money for the hard work is fair enough.

yeah

but to get that job, you have to be smart, and sometimes with that kind of intelligence, you could be getting more money in the industry(provided you are persistent/patient)

Its rather strange as my medical professors would be getting paid that much yet they dress like bums.

Research is paid by the government or funded by companies. Macquarie was given the highest research grant awhile ago, more than any other University.

I read it on their research website. It might depend on the department too. What field is your tutor in?

so does any1 actually know how much the tutors for psy get paid ??
Unlike lecturers, I think tutors across all disciplines get the same hourly rate (so I hear). I also heard from my egyptology tutor that the rate's pretty good, especially considering a lot of tutors are young (she'd be 24).

That being said, if I don't get a research fellowship, I'm going to have to nuke the place and move to the Uni of Chicago.
