not against anything that improves quality of life eg less smog (often quoted as support for environmental measures) but global issues should be addressed globally, as they have gobal impacts

We need alternative fuel sources. By discouraging the use of carbon as a primary fuel source it's is doing nothing other than encourage research into alternative, renewable energy.

The economic factor is primarily a personal opinion. I do not expect others to agree (quite the opposite) and would not expect it to be a deciding factor in the passing of any bills etc. You cannot deny the need to find alternative fuel sources.

It bears remembering that the ETS that Gillard has brought in might not have bipartisan support but the emission reduction targets do. The only MP's who do not support these carbon emmisions are the nationals and Bob Katter.

im talking about global temperatures (and hence temperatures in oz) which is the reason climate change is a big issue, as it will affect the earth's liveablility

you can ramble on about 'our carbon footprint' and our 'moral' obligations, however if you are a realist you should admit that no matter what Australia does on this issue, no noticeable difference is going to be made. as i've said before, the only place being an idealist will get you is with your neck in a noose.

abbott's plan is capped unlike gillard's, so it is less likely to reach the emissions targets
