the free market cant fix anything. if you want to use the free market practice, you have to assume that companies will try to provide consumers goods which they demand at a price which they are willing to pay....so that supply and demand are at equilibrium, but free market doesnt work that way. when you have market structures such as oligopolies and monopolies running the show, youre going to get a very few large companies within that industry fixing prices so that consumers are forced to pay that price...esp if the good or service is inelastic. corporate greed means that the free market does not always work. with little or no government regulation, how do we as consumers ensure that we are being protected? an ideal world would be one where the main market structure is perfect competition...so that both suppliers and consumers are price takers. BOOM problem solved....(but the problem with this is that companies would actually want to make profit, they are not going to enter into an industry without expecting to get some sort of monetary incentive from it all....no point in starting up a new business knowing that youll only be able to break even..)
