significance for the individual:
- allows for the fulfilment of the first mitzvah "Go forth and multiply".
- each act in the wedding ceremony reflects jewish beliefs and traditions for example the ketubah reinstating that marriage is a holy covenant, the exchange of rings serving as a reminder of the contract between God and Abraham and other patriarchs.
- provides a loving companion (or soulmate another Jewish belief) as instructed by scripture "it is not good for man to be alone.. "

significance for the community:
- marriage acts as a reminder of joy. jewish history has been a tale of woe and each marriage reminds them that in times of upheaval there is a chance for new hope/fresh start (with each marriage)
- allows for the continuation of the jewish line. a person is a jew if their mother is jewish hence it is crucial for jewish believers to "multiply".

:D
