so wat the soldiers shouldnt have been in their in the first place.
been where??? protecting THEIR side of the border???

its a tragedy that could have been avoided, simply if Israel had not taken offensive!
the great debate..
i believe israel cant sit aorund letting people like this fuck with them and when they do you cant negotaite with people like this..
your opinion is stated above

Tars the biggest BS ever.. - by invading lebanon there is no gaurantee that rockets are going to stop fallin into israel. Once again only 15 have died and 38 injured . rockets only reach northern israel. just evacuate that area and work on a diplomatic solution instead of worsening the situation.
i was refering how israelis, despite them cherishing humna life, are sick of prisoner exhcnages where they let loose criminials for merely only the remians of their loved ones (refering to the last prisoner exhcnage where three BODIES were exhcnaged for the release of hundreds of priosners)

Israel's actions has not only given more support to terrorist actions it has also increased the likelihood of a terrorist attack elsewhere in the world. Why should others pay the price? for a selfish nation of Israel.
o this is lovely...i cant wait to hear some great thought of some genius saying this war was caused by the jews coz they knew this pathetic wastes of human beings would love to blow themselves up to kill other people..

Israel need not have had a prisoner exchange- i think thats fair enough. but israel's offensive was the wrong move for the both lebanon and israel. this is not going to help israel ward of terrorists... just think of the lebanese ppl who have lost their relatives, sons and daughters - they are not going blame hezbollah because they seem them as defending their country (whether thats hezbollah intention or not). AS a matter fact they are the only defense in lebanon resisting hte invasion. they will blame and hate israel for killin their relatives.. and you will see the next generation will grow in numbers to support terrorist organisations.
i accept youre understading...but thats not hezbollah's...they will not stop until their is a prisoner exhcnage..

This is how basically terrorism has started, with palestinian being treated in similat and are still being treated in the same manner.
there will always be terrorism when people cant love their children more than they hate the jews/israel/the western world

They are TERRORISTS - wat do you expect of TERRORISTS - they have no value in life - but that does not mean israel has to employ a similar mentality?
kindly share your chain of thought with the brain washed amongst us..however the manner in which israel and hezbollah fight is very different
i know people are apposed to the dropping of leaflets...but i ask you what other country would do that? risk hezbollah knowing where they will attack next...telling the enemy their plans!!
none

wat peace treaties - they hasnt been a single peace treaty as such. if you mean olso accords- that isnt even peace treaty - it is agreement to work towards peace. but it was broken.. all the peace treaties have been broken.. even the ceasefire was broken?
i was refering to israel's neighbours
jordan and egypt
and then explaining how israel could never fathom a peace treaty with its other neighbours

lol - only cause they leached billions from USA. Just imagine if they USA had used for better purpose maybe in Africa or in Asia - i am sure they would have used that money in a more productive manner.
O mate you asked for it, now you get it!

The Middle East has been growing date palms for centuries. The average tree is about 18-20 feet tall and yields about 38 pounds of dates a year. Israeli date trees are now yielding 400 pounds/year and are short enough to be harvested from the ground or a short ladder.
Israel the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world's population, can lay claim to the following: The cell phone was developed in Israel by Israelis working in the Israeli branch of Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel
Most of the Windows NT and XP operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel.
The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel. Both the Pentium-4 microprocessor and the Centrino processor were entirely designed, developed and produced in Israel .
Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.
Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel The technology for the AOL Instant Messenger ICQ was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis.
Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors combined. Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.
According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry's >most impenetrable flight security. US officials now look to Israel for advice on how to handle airborne security threats.
Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world. Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people -- as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.
In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of >startup companies in the world.
Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the U.S. Outside the United States and Canada , Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.
Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East . The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK .
24% of Israel's workforce holds university degrees, ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland and 12 % hold advanced degrees.
Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.
In 1984 and 1991, Israel airlifted a total of 22,000 Ethiopian Jews (Operation Solomon) at Risk in Ethiopia, to safety in Israel . (theres your numeral facts)When Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became the world's second elected female leader in modern times.
When the U. S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed in 1998, Israeli rescue teams were on the scene within a day.
Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship -- and the highest rate among women and among people over 55 - in the world.
Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and economic opportunity. (Hundreds of thousands from the former Soviet Union) Israel was the first nation in the world to adopt the Kimberly process, an international standard that certifies diamonds as "conflict free."
Israel has the world's second highest per capita of new books.
Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees, made more remarkable because this was achieved in an area considered mainly desert.
Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.
Medicine... Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.
An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment.
Every year in U. S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes. Israel's Given Imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside for cancer and digestive disorders.
Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the camera helps doctors diagnose the heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.
Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U. S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions. Israel places first in this category as well.
An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California's Mojave desert .
All the above while engaged in regular wars with an implacable enemy that seeks its destruction, and an economy continuously under strain by having to spend more per capita on its own protection than any other county on earth. So what was that you were saying? mr not so hot

You will come to really see who is lying, who is telling the truth, Muslims are not your enemies, Muslim are the only nation that awaits the return of Jesus besides Christians, Jesus is mentioned in their book more wonderfully than what you have, their love for Jesus is better than any other under the Heaven including yours, please stop the killing of the children because they are Muslims, please stop hating us for who we are, we hate those among you for what they are doing, not because they are from a different faith.
Yea, that'll get the christians. Telling them that you love jesus MORE and that they suck.

think of it this way - if america didnt plant microsoft in Israel. didnt fund billions in aid - i doubt israel would have achieved anything. without america's support israel no doubt is useless.
look at Japan for instance - it was pretty useless after it was nuked by USA. But usa gave quite a bit in aid - and the japanese worked hard.. trained in USA etc and are now economically very powerful.

aid to Israel is $3 billion per year—$1.2 billion in economic aid and $1.8 billion in military aid. As impressive as this figure is, however, since it represents about one-sixth of total U.S. foreign aid, the true figure is even more remarkable. It is difficult, however, to arrive at an exact number. Much of the money the U.S. gives Israel is buried in the budgets of other government agencies, primarily the Defense Department (DOD). Other subsidies come in a form that isn’t easily quantifiable, such as the early disbursement of aid, which allows Israel to gain (and the U.S. taxpayer to lose) the interest on the unspent money.
GIve $3 BIllion to any country every year and i am sure they can do better than israel in producing intel chips..developing greenhouses...

They bomb the cars because they had a pre-specified curfew hours yet these cars that were moving were within the curfew hours. Either the cars' occupants had no idea about the curfew or they were truly militants.
And who gives Israel the right to set these curfews? In the same manner, handing out fliers warning civilians to get out of the area because the area will be bombed DOES NOT IN ANY WAY absolve the guilt of the IDF if civilians are killed.

Hizbullah's attacks stem from Israeli incursions into Lebanon
Hizbullah's capture of two Israeli soldiers on July 12 was a direct result of Israel's silent but unrelenting aggression against Lebanon, which in turn is part of a six-decades long Arab-Israeli conflict.

Since its withdrawal of occupation forces from southern Lebanon in May 2000, Israel has violated the United Nations-monitored "blue line" on an almost daily basis, according to UN reports. Hizbullah's military doctrine, articulated in the early 1990s, states that it will fire Katyusha rockets into Israel only in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanese civilians or Hizbullah's leadership; this indeed has been the pattern.

In the process of its violations, Israel has terrorized the general population, destroyed private property, and killed numerous civilians. This past February, for instance, 15-year-old shepherd Yusuf Rahil was killed by unprovoked Israeli cross-border fire as he tended his flock in southern Lebanon. Israel has assassinated its enemies in the streets of Lebanese cities and continues to occupy Lebanon's Shebaa Farms area, while refusing to hand over the maps of mine fields that continue to kill and cripple civilians in southern Lebanon more than six years after the war supposedly ended. What peace did Hizbullah shatter?
Israel responded to an unprovoked attack by Hizbullah, right? Wrong
But there is no serious debate about why the two soldiers were captured: Hizbullah was seeking to exchange them for the 15 prisoners of war taken by the Israelis during the occupation of Lebanon and (in breach of article 118 of the third Geneva convention) never released. It seems clear that if Israel had handed over the prisoners, it would - without the spillage of any more blood - have retrieved its men and reduced the likelihood of further kidnappings. But the Israeli government refused to negotiate. Instead - well, we all know what happened instead. Almost 1,000 Lebanese and 33 Israeli civilians have been killed so far, and a million Lebanese displaced from their homes.

Why is this debate still going?

The whole world wants a ceasfire. Everyone can see this war is wrong.

The only ones too blind to see it are Jews who will back Israel no matter what they do (i.e Jenzipoo)

and right wing neo-cons who are Islamaphobic.

Watching people trying to justify this war is quite pathetic, and they're opinions mean very little to me.

It's quite disturbing that they're able to justify the killing of hundreds of civilians, though.

o yes let see...the government begged lil billy gates to put a microsoft centre in israel..
the usa didnt NEED israel..israel was using the aid it received for defence...its companies were not receiving it!
despite what you "palestine facts" outright bias site says
yer well look at any african country that receives aid, theyre still stuck in shit! please just accept that israel does actually benefit the world's economy and move on

upon researching the amount of aid israel receives i came accross many sites with hugely varying amounts
i do accept that israel receives millions if not billions of dollars from the US a year because as many many US presidents have stated they support israel's right to exist in a region which is dominated by countries who believe it does not..but this is a only a minor percentage of the aid given by the US
no other country has succedded (in near size comparison)
get over it

Israel accounts for 0.1% of global population, yet it recieves roughly one third of US foreign aid. Of that aid to Israel, 2/3 is miltary aid. So about 20% of total US foreign aid is military aid to Israel. It shows where their priorities lie.

33% of total US foreign aid is not a minor percentage.

egypt receives 1.87b

Well UN resolution 1701 was passed this morning unanimously this morning in the UN and both Hezbollah and Israel has expressed approval of it.

Hopefully it will do better than Resolution 1559 from 2004, which called for the unarming of all militias and the respecting of each others boarders!

Are the killing of Lebanese civilians justified?

As for groups trampling on Israel's right to exist, let's consider an opinion that isn't being spashed across CNN, taken from this article:
Equally, what would they make of my belief that Hizbullah does not want to wipe Israel off the map? Would they find me convincing if I told them that Israel, not Hizbulalh, is the aggressor in the conflict: that following Israel’s supposed withdrawal from south Lebanon in 2000, Lebanon experienced barely a day of peace from the terrifying sonic booms of Israeli war planes violating the country’s airspace?

Would they understand as I explained that Hizbullah had acted with restraint for those six years, stockpiling its weapons for the day it knew was coming when Israel would no longer be satisfied with overflights and its appetite for conquest and subjugation would return? Would the officials doubt their own assumptions as I told them that during this war Hizbullah’s rockets have been a response to Israeli provocations, that they are fired in return for Israel’s devastating and indiscriminate bombardment of Lebanon?

No matter the actions of the Israeli Government, you cannot deny the roles that Hezbollah and the Lebanese Government have played.

for 6 years the lebanese government sat by watching these fighters being trained, watching hezbollah re arm and wtaching them hide stashes of weopons, ammunition and missiles...
