It depends on what type of marks (should say, band) you're looking for. Unfortunately, 600 words isn't much in 40 minutes. At least about 800 is recommended.

However, if 600 words is all you can do, produce quality and hope for the best.

You say short and good quality may do the trick .....howabout long at about 800 but not that gr8 (but not extremely bad also)?

600 in 40 minutes.. that's like 15 words a minute or something
are you having problems coming up with things to write, or your writing speed?

No way can they write 1000-1200...? I was told about 800 should be enough in english- because there is less time than in other subjects.

Are people handwriting everything and then counting how much they have written?

hmm, i'm sure you can still write more than 2 sentences in a minute though!

it doesn't matter how much you write, as long as you fit in everything you've learnt that you want to talk about. and if you can fit what you've learnt in a term into 800 words then it's seriously an excellent skill to have.

and 1000-1200 sounds about right for average

My 3 essays for the modules are at least 1000 words..
my bnw/br essay is 1000 words,
plath is 1400 words
caesar is 1700 words..

Im not sure, but i reckon i mite be able to just squeeze everything in...considering the fact that my final essay i do in the hsc will be a little bit different....

Hey princess, dont stress- heres a tip the boyz once told me and ive used it ever since!! "If it looks like your going under, write larger" plus with thousands and thousands of essays to mark what teacher affords the time to count all the words. What they in fact do is take a calculator into the marking room and count the number of words in the first line and times it by the amount of sentences. Common sense tells me that you should make the first line crammed with words- say 12 - 13 words and you'll be sweet. All the best guys... ill be thinking of each and everyone of yr.12 2003 monday morning.... Seeya at schoolies!

try and fill a book like someone else said, i think 1000 is right as well, because a normal a4 page is about 38 lines, and if i write 9 words a line that's about 350 words, in 40 mins if i write 4 pages that's 1400 words

Hmmm.......that's what I do. Just get the calc and times across. 600 words---well, i actually omit simple words like "a" "the""and"...ukno........i should add it on. The prob is that although i kno my work i just go blank sometimes.:)

basically - try to fill up a bos booklet for each essay (that's about 7 pages, not A4)
It's actually 8 pages, spacing between lines is 1.2cm, line is 18cm long, and there are 20 lines per page (not counting the uppermost one)

well... for ext english- one like me tends to write very little which is about 10 booklet pages in 1 hour.. which equates to roughly 2000 words so 40 mins ur looking at 1300 word which is what every1 is... usually i write 6 or 7 pages- and thats adequaute just don't spend too much time on one part

Just practice writing the same couple of essays over and over again... so the even if you're mind goes blank, you'll still be writing. :p

I think that it's quality over quantity - as long as you put your argument forward well, you'll do well. I average around 800 words an essay, not brilliant I know, but as long as you know what you'll write, it shouldn't be too bad.
