So say I got 1 part wrong and it lead to a chain in getting others wrong

In the Hsc marking, they will ignore the first mistake and still give me marks for the others? is that correct?

From what I understand, you will be deducted 'x' marks which were reserved for the correct answer.

If the working out is correct, you will pick marks up there.

That's why teachers always tell students to do the working out as it provides students with the fallback if they make a silly mistake.

For 16b(iii) I deduced the wrong length for OP (because I subbed the y value 0 into x instead of putting it into y) which meant when I put it into the area of a trapezium formula I couldn't end up proving the equation given.
Its out of 2 marks.. do you think they'll give me a 1? :(
