No, but that content in Year 11 is built upon in Year 12 and you may need to refer to it a bit in essays.

Just another question; you know for all those essay questions they ask in crime like "Analyse the role of discretion." "Analyse the types of penalities available in Australia in acheiving justice, bla, bla."

I was wondering if the syllabus tells you how to answer those questions, or whether you are just expected to pick it up during crime. Because for those essay questions, I couldn't find any answers whatsoever and that's when I went through all the dot points in the syllabus about crime.

The syllabus tells you what you have to know - and I'm sure in the syllabus they'll stipulate you to know about penalties. They're not going to list the penalties for you, that's why you use a textbook/study guide...

But does any textbook of the subject tell you about the effectiveness of all these penalties or do you have to research about past cases and look which penalty each offender was given and include that in your essay?

Textbook should cover it. You may not need to mention it if it isn't in the syllabus.

The effectiveness of those penalties is something you have to figure out yourself.
