Is a raw mark in the 30s really bad for 4 unit?
cause the top for my half yearly was only liek 69(raw) and i got liek 31(raw)
so is this classified as really crap

since nobody is answering because they don't want to hurt your feelings, i'm going to be honest. 30% is a terrible mark. If you mean 30/120, thats even worse.

Could be a hard exam, but the spacing from first to yours seems pretty huge, so by definition it's a bad "rank", not exactly a bad mark.

It depends on how you did in comparison with everyone else. Ie if the test was extreamly hard, the first person was a genious and you came second it might not be that bad. But if there are a lot of people between 1st and you then it's not the best mark.

Out of curiosity, how many people are in your class and what was your rank?

This is what I want to know, a guy coming 1st with 90+ and next person in line commin 2nd gets in the 70s, what can you comment on the exam level.

depends on the questions... but generally 30% is at the lower end of expected scores..

in the front of jeff geha's 50 tips for 4 unit, it has the averages[SD, lowest, highest etc] for 4u maths HSC papers from a while back. anyway, one year ['93 me thinks] the average was circa 30% [RAW!!] but other years, the raw average has been circa 70%!
