Lol what i can't understand is why is apple just releasing these features now? Some of these features have be around on exisiting iphones and ipod touches for years...

I was ROFLin when i saw the "new" features. Multitasking on iphone and itouch can be eaisly done by jailbreaking it and installing backgrounder (Y) and its been out since like 1st gen iphone lol...what else ahh apple finally decided to add some creativity to their wallpaper, (dumb fucks) only took them 4 yrs tio implemnet a changing wallpaper lol

There's a massive difference between backgrounding multitasking services and using backgrounder to run apps in the background you idiot.

Can't wait for the Jailbroken version of iphone 4 lol, imagine the possibilities endless ,maybe even bluetooth will become reality on iphone

ios4 has a sweet bluetooth stack for the record...

The bad thing with upgrading existing iphones and itouchs (2g and up) to this will cause them to operate slower and casue lag issues since the iOS4 is not specially designed for older models etc...

Apple isn't really taking their time, they're simply doing what they've ALWAYS done since the ipod epidemic. Release a shit device, upgrade it a little bit by releasing a whole new product, then keep doing so.

The sheer quantity of ipod versions is evidence of this. As if they didn't have the technology beforehand.

Tech vs price points. Some of it is marketing, but from talking to the apple teams here, and having actually candid conversations not just chats about AAPL GR8. It's mostly they're really fucking insistent about polishing EVERYTHING before they release it. The iPhone has always had multitasking services (mail, calendar, iPod etc) but the APIs weren't clean enough for public release.

They really seriously dive into shit and figure out what is feasible at price points before they actually jump into it. Also each product has around an 18 month dev cycle, and the teams don't talk to each other much. The guys doing the iPod touch dev probably only found out about the iOS stuff the other week at the iOS preview.

Also the touch will be running the same 1Ghz A4, it won't be faster.

Because no one in the world has a fucking 4G network. Also you know how much of a battery CUNT 3G is, 4G has way more intense signalling and bandwith needs, thus sucks more juice. If you're sending more data you're getting more bits, that means even if it's a more efficient telephony method, you still fucking suck down the juice.

Also iOS 4 should add a huge boost to battery life for Audio playback because of how they restructured the Audio framework, now it clusters decompression into bursts allowing for CPU idle time rather than continuously decompressing data live

About 4 G it can go 2 ways, u can send thing faster thus eating less battery then 3g (3g would take longer), but 3g uses less battery over a long time..etc...Guess have to wait until they upgrade the batteries to be more efficient, 3 g is good for calls and text, for internet its crap.

Because the connection stays alive after the 3G data is received to see if there are any more packets of data, 3G drains more battery than anything else. 4G is much the same. You want to leave the radio as idle as possible to maximise battery life.

3G is perfectly usable for mobile internet man. 7.2Mbps

yea but depends where u r...downloading 1 pg on my mums iphone takes an age --never gets done basically (from the app store), depends on ur range etc. the data is coming from satellites which = slower transfer rates, with wifi its coming from wireless router thats about 10 m away, not 11 km away.

anyways the reason why apple is so successful is because they advertise really well and a lot...just the only reason why i have a itouch atm...(some1 bought it for me)...if it wasn't for that i would of still been using my 2 gb ipod nano 1st gen, the sound quality is like no different, even it was its not even noticeable.

The reason apple is successful is that they develop *GOOD* products at half decent price points.
