Uh.. since when was online gambling illegal in Australia? Don't think Sportsbet and TAB are going to be too pleased with this..

10,000 sites? So I guess myspace, facebook, youtube will be blocked as well. And along with pirate sites, there goes all the free stuff. :mad1:

Online gambling is not illegal.. but Sportsbet and TAB have to follow a whole lot of government regulations. Gambling websites hosted overseas do not. I think the intention is to block those websites.

You oppose the intervention in the Northern Territory?
Some aspects of it, yes.

But my point here was more that the "lol pedophile" charge prevented any serious discussion of the NTI in the media.

-The way welfare was quarantined so that it could only be spent at major supermarkets hundreds of kilometres away from remote communities
-The way the community labour program was ended to ensure that all Indig people in remote communities were on welfare so that their spending could be controlled
-Banning alcohol/pornography in all remote communities
-Treating child sex abuse as if it were only a problem within Indigenous communities. The statistics that I have seen suggest that rates of child sex abuse may be slightly higher there - but not massively so.

That's all I've got off the top of my head. I support the NTI overall - my primary problem was that a detailed discussion of the program was neutered by hysterical "won't somebody please think of the children"'s.

close, but you see, your objections rely on Aboriginals being classified as humans when in reality, they are closer to the Great Apes.

Would you support quarantining the welfare of Great Apes and making them travel hundreds of kilometres to go to Woolies? :(

Once they start filtering content they will also filter out anti-government dissent, The next stage is to monitor our posts and comments. You can laugh at that now but the police already does monitor material online and now they'll have free reigns not just to monitor but also shut down anything they consider subversive.

This has nothing to do with listening to vocal minorities, The government has never given a shit about vocal minorities.

This is just a cover. They want us to get used to living in a controlled environment, Already the most surveillance nations in the world are American and Britain. They want us to be afraid of the terrorists.

This looks more and more like a George Orwell novel.

I'm 99 % sure it will never happen. I think they are quietly panicking and looking for a way to get out of it gracefully (although I'm not sure if Conroy realizes this yet or not).

I can't see Labor spending large amounts of political capital for something that the business community will hate and about a 1/3 of Australia will be strongly opposed to. Plus if you were to poll the Labor MP's on where this is on their list of priorities it wouldn't even be top 10.
