International Business, as a major or degree? (1 Viewer)

I'm not sure what to do... im currently studying B International Business at Macq ... but people say that its not gonna get me a job and its best to jsut major in it ... what should i do am i wasting my time studying this degree?

yes

you would be better off doing another major, like, accounting/finance/marketing/hrm - you know, something you could build a career around.

Marketing and HRM are quite different, and both probably go well with intl. business, perhaps it works better with marketing. You would be better off choosing what interests you more, working with people or advertising/market research etc.

What exactly is International Business??

According to Sydney: "This new major is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills relevant to the development, strategy and management of international business organisations and the institutional context for their development, growth and operation. The program encompasses the domain of international business studies including multinational and transnational business activities, strategies and managerial processes that cross national boundaries, joint ventures and strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and the interactions of international business organisations with their economic, political and cultural environments."

It's all very interesting, but i think graduates are being a bit ambitious if they think they will have a key role in the activities of TNCs. Though looking at the units of study offered it would still be a good 'secondary' major (i'm not putting it down), just look at that summary above, wow.

Can you do International Business as a major in Macquarie University .....Cos as I read the course structure of Bachelor of Commerce seems they don't offer International Business as a major

I'll prefer Marketing more than HR.... but as SSaint said choose the one that you are interested in

Nope no major since there is a specialist degree offered only, if there was a mahjor then they'd be no use for the Bachelor of International Business... it sucks a little

......I see.... that's the main thing that I don't like Macquarie University..... most of the things are bind together already

i do a commerce/economics degree at UNE, i do international business (its called 'the international economy' at UNE) as a major along with marketing and economics.

FLEE!

International business is basically BS.... it is incredibly interesting (which is why i study it) but also incredibly useless in terms of real-world applications. It is full of 'nice-to-know' information, as opposed to any sort of information you can use in a work place.

It is also incredibly easy to achieve good marks in (another reason why i study it).... it keeps my weighted average up =P

In short
International business gives you no useful skillset which you can implement in a job, find a second major or get ready to flip burgers.

Agree with above. Any Mgmt/International Bus knowledge can be picked up from real work, not from textbook.

Cut your losses and transfer to a more professional degree.
