Ok so with my half-yearly maths exam on Wednesday I'm more than a little worried about this damned integration stuff.. I get the trapezoidal areas bit, but the Simpsons rule is still eluding me when it has to be used twice.

I assume to add it you need to upload the image somewhere and then attach it using the IMG code. What is your question exactly?

Are you referring to Estel as being in year 7? Disregard his HSC completion date (2010), she is actually in year 12 (yes?) and doing extension 2 mathematics.

um ok... is there some way to write these equations properly or do I just make do?

Approximate using 5 function values.

so I changed it to
1
S = dx/x+1
0

S= dx/x+1
1

and put them into the formula... but i think I keep mixing around the dividing and multiplying parts because its 1/x+1.

100 in 3U is definitely the aim, as for 4u I'm not sure yet. Maths is getting quite dry for me though. =/

Mouldy, you may be interested in the general formula

Int approx: h[y0 + 4y1 + 2y2 + 4y3... yn]/3
where h = width of strips, n = number of function values.
Check the textbook... I'm sure Cambridge has it, don't know about the others.

ah yes there's something similar to that in here... except they say that n is the number of subintervals instead or n+1 function values. Sigh I'll just have to get to it and ask my teacher if i'm doing it properly.

So you're really in 4u maths? thats daunting. I'll stick with history and english extensions instead.
