Hey I do BBA Bec (Bus Admin / Economics double degree)
BBA is a good degree if you want to become a manager eventually, and want a good foundation in all areas of a business.
You do a bit of everything - ranging from marketing, statistics, economics, human resource management, accounting, law and finance. Then in second and third year you choose two majors (which is basically any of the previous aforementioned subjects). In doing this, you will do two four specialised subjects in these areas (2 in second year, and 2 in third year - so 8 subjects all up between the two majors). There are core subjects that are compulsory.
It is probably worthwhile considering what majors you might do. Eventually when you come to applying for jobs, you will usually have a specific type of job that you will apply for (either marketing, HRM, finance, accounting etc). If you have an idea what type of job you want - then you can make a better decision. If you want to do marketing or HRM then BBA on its own is a very good degree. If you want to do finance, accounting, economics then you are probably best to do an extra year and do a double degree. This allows you to specialise in areas such as finance, economics and accounting which typically employers wont hire BBA students.
A BBA / combined degree is very usefull as it provides you with an overall understanding of business, but adds the specialised knowledge that employers demand. For example, I do BBA Bec. If I wanted to get a job as an economist, theres no way that I could do that simply with a BBA degree (with an economics major). But having done BBA Bec (which is only an extra year) I can apply for those types of jobs. (although in my case you really need honours in economics to get a job as an economist). The same thing applies with the other subjects.
BBA is fun - and dare I say easy. I cant think of any friends who have a lighter workload than me. It is only the economics subjects that require more work. This does not take anything off the BBA program either. Macquaries BBA is the best in Australia.
