My friend is doing Ext. 2. And she wants to do write a single short story for her MW instead of a collection. Her teacher keeps telling her she has to write a collection or choose something else.

My question is can she write one short story or does it have to be a collection?

P.S. I'm asking b/c she doesn't have the internet. Please and thank you!!!!

I'm sure there are strengths to both singular stories and a suite of stories. My friend's doing a short story too, but given an 8000 word limit, it's best to develop one singular idea into a strong piece of work. A suite of stories would lessen the authors ability to develop characters, distinctive voices, themes and general ideas. Wishing you and your friend best of luck! :)

tl;dr= yes, it's okay to write a single story.
