Lynn can't remember discussing fourth or fifth-person narrative (is that grammatically correct?). What did she miss?

Lynn asks Justin how a change of time perspective would effect writing?
Justin will, some time in the future, inform Lynn that a change of time perspective would be just like a change of tense. He will suggest that future tense seems like a good idea, because he will think that past and present tense are both overrated.

Monique feels so un-sui generis. How can her brilliant idea to create a fourth person be *thought* of already?!

Fourth person would be completely big-picture. If we take the "person" system to represent three levels of narration, ranging from the extremely personal first person, to the dissasociative overview of third person, then fourth person would either be a history of the universe, or an amalgam of all three narrative techniques. If the third dimension is of solid forms, than the only conceivable way to formulate a fourth dimension, short of experiencing it, would be to consider all preceding states - possibly creating an emergent state from the sum of the previous states.

^ Lynn thanks Marcus for this analysis as it makes it easier to juggle a more "solid" concept of fourth-person narration in her head. She is also amused by his new BOS signature.

EDIT: Lynn has just rented Miss Congeniality 2, Girl With A Pearl Earring and Affair Of The Necklace. She wonders which order she should watch them in?! She isn't sure she can watch two dramas one after the other.

GWaPE is awesome
Marcus: Alex could feel her brain exploding, just reading that last post...
Alex thinks its very stupid that she finishes school before the exams.... she can feel her brain turning into mush already.. how will she make it through the exams?

An example of a possible approach to fourth person:

Marcus enters I-PR and notices that few people are online. As you read his message, you are struck by his cleverness. I think it's best that way, it has better effect, but Marcus does nonetheless think he is honking his own horn. You agree.

In analysing Marcus's words, he has decided that his theory lacks sufficient independence from persons one through three. Evan thus proposes that we speak using future tense from the perspective of the actions rather than the actor:)

Evan knows this. And Marcus knows that Evan knows this. And Evan knows that Marcus knows that Evans knows where the nose knows that he knows this.;)
However, by rendering fourth person explicitly in a more esoteric tense it will aid in distancing it more completely from the 3 previous narrative perspectives.

Monique takes back her suggestion. This fourth person narration is perhaps a little too out of her league...

That's why Lynn likes it!

Listening to Evan and Marcus argue is a bit like watching some whacked-up tennis match... if it was in the air with no gravity constrictions, and if the audience was upside-down, and you get the picture.

Lynn thinks that now is a very good opportunity to say that after watching Miss Congeniality 2, one of her new life ambitions is to be Big Bird with hot pink highlights. If not that, then she would like to be given a magical charm for her car to prevent it from ever being turned on its side. Yes, in the middle of rehearsal today, Lynn and the rest of the cast were informed that someone's car (already parked on an angled road, sloping towards kerb) had been pushed over and was appearing to want to drive perpendicular to the road. Car had been parked approximately 4.5 metres from theatre entrance.

Lynn has been informed that three-door Holden Barina's are extremely light, and that a few strong guys could have just pushed it over, particularly as it was already on a slope... but..!!!!!

Justin would be inclined to disagree if it were agreed that the fourth person is similar to the fourth dimension, the it would be time-based. Therefore, a change of tense, or even changes of tense, would be sufficient conditions for claiming that you are using fourth person narration.

However, since we haven't agreed on what the fourth person is, then this is not completely true, though it is not necessarily wrong, either.

I would think that the fourth dimension would transcend linear time - I see it as a constant state, rather than a prediction of events. Therefore, a change of tense would simply be a change of tense. Writing in future tense also limits your expression a great deal.

lol@Lynn's story!

^ But would it be a 'pattern' of changed tenses? If it were entirely random the fourth-person narrative would be difficult to study/"mimic" <-- how we learn (yes, Lynn is aware she is stating the obvious)

I don't think it should be random, I just don't think that future tense is anything more special than future tense. It's like saying that past tense is first person writing. I don't think that tense is the answer.
