I don't know what I'll do.

I know there's other ways to get in but...I really haven't focused on those yet.

I know the cut-off this year is 93 and I might not get it. It's reachable, but my english is just that bad. Dfee is available to me though. Does that help?

And yes, I gotta focus on STAT too!

You cannot major in pharmacy in a science degree--pharmacy is pharmaceutical science + pharmacy practice, just thought I'd clear that up. There are no courses as far as I'm aware that offer pharmaceutical science in metropolitan Sydney anyway.

DFEE is expensive though, can your folks fork out at least $20k/year for the next 4 years? Otherwise, there are several options:

- Transfer--pharmacy is highly competitive to transfer into, need a Distinction average. So you'd be best doing subjects that you're good at. The other thing is, the degree has now changed so they're doing more pharmacy-only subjects in first year, so you can't get credit for all of first year and skip straight to second year. Therefore, you will still waste a year anyway, so you might as well do something you enjoy. So if you think you have a stronger chance of getting in by doing an Arts degree first, do it!
- Grad entry pharmacy--they're offering M.Pharm., which is like grad med in that it's shorter than the bachelor's, you do it after your first degree, and they assume you know stuff. It's 2 years full fee paying, so again not cheap, but cheaper than 4 years DFEE.
- Try another interstate if you can afford it--other cities' standard of living is cheaper, and it takes less to relocate than DFEE. Of course, whether you're comfortable moving or not is more important, but this is an option.
- Get in with DFEE and transfer to HECS after first year--again, subject to competition, so I wouldn't advise this route.

I'm trying to weigh up a similar decision (well sort of) atm myself.
- I'm a 2nd year medical science student, with a WAM of 83.5 (and 96.5 UAI); I've really really enjoyed pharmacology, but have thought long and hard and decided pharmacy is the road I'd like to take as apposed to pharmacology based research (which would almost certainly require moving to America to make any sort of sustainable income off).
- Do I swallow 2 years of intensive study and ~$13k hecs debt and apply for undergrad pharm or finish medical science and hope I manage to obtain a competitive GAMSAT that will get me into masters...
I know I could almost certainly get into undergrad pharmacy, but getting into the masters course is not a definite, and if I didn't get in I'm looking at UWS or completing honours.

That's a very impressive WAM, congratulations on that. I would think your best bet is to apply for Masters. That's because in the undergrad degree, you will still have to do the subjects in pharmacy that no-one else does, which start from first year, so you will still graduate in four years, only thing is your load is lighter at first (it will get heavier--I think by third year it's a safe bet you'll have a full time load).

Therefore it's a question of whether you want to spend six or five years (Masters is two years) getting a pharmacy degree.

I'm not sure what the Masters entry requirements are, but with an average like that I wouldn't be worried. GAMSAT is hard but doable, and with a medical science degree you'll be right for at least the sciences part of it.

Having said that, it seems at this stage your chances of getting into undergrad >>> Masters so it's really up to you--transferring into undergrad is the slow but sure way (if you keep your WAM up), getting into Masters is the riskier but faster way.

@TS : I got in with dfee , it's .. I duno how to put it. I thought it would be , you know , decent to pull a few credits and distinctions .. lol I was so wrong xD. Next year I'm guna have to smash myself to do better :( .. (I used FEE-HELP by the way, not rich enough to fork out 20k / year haha).

If you're interested in going interstate (and remain somewhere close to the city), there's always Griffith Uni. Somewhere closer back home - you might wanna have a stab @Wagga or Orange.

Well the worst possible has occured:

I didn't get the UAI needed. 90.4. But I did pass stat. No bachelor of Pharmacy of me.

Now I don't know what to do. I want do so something where I can open up a business and work in it. But not something like Chinese Med.

yeah i was planning on doing that.

Does anybody know how hard it would be to transfer from like BPharm @ Charles Sturt to BPharm @ Usyd? I really want to go to Usyd.

From what i heard, as long as you maintain a distinction average, ur pretty much guaranteed for transfer.
a friend of mine got distinction in med sci at usyd and received an offer, although he declined
if u receive credit- there may be special considerations

go on the usyd website pharm for more info

If you take first year B Sc. or B Med Sci. with certain first year Biology units at USYD and successfully transfer to B Pharm at USYD, you will usually have credit for those Biology units (because they are also offered in the Science degrees) and won't have to take them again which relieves your workload a bit...:)

Not sure about Chemistry though, apparently it's specialised for Pharmacy and is supposedly different to the Chemistry available to the Science degrees.

@ sparklstsista: I got 87.45. Congrats on the uai! :)

@ Deltan: But what if I want to transfer between uni's? I'm just scared that if I can't maintain those Distinctions that I'll be stuck doing a partially useless course. If I start @ CSU, I'll be able to at least have BPharm degree instead of something like Med Sci. So, is it just as easy to tranfer in between unis?

Yeah, the Chemistry units are specialised for Pharm, I think the first semester unit is CHEM1611 Chemistry A (Pharmacy) and then sem.2 CHEM1612 Chemistry B (Pharmacy), only offered to Pharm students.
