Although you are NOT screwed you may have to pay the price later. From my personal experience I screwed up my first economics exam HARD (Like 55%) then got motivated for the hsc and started getting 90s in the next 3 assessments. Although I did catch up eventually the first assessment definitely cost me around 20~ ranks out of 70 in the end. So start working as early as possible and moderation is always good (2hrs a day everyday)

Do not worry. If you're good at it, you'll have to work that bit harder to catch up, but you'll be right. That bit of hard work is also gonna pay off at your final exams.

My friend got LAST in his first English Adv assessment, he still came out top by a country mile.

Imagine how far ahead if he didn't come last... But yeah, as long as you work hard and don't stuff up further assessments, you'll be right.

you sound like you're pretty convinced that you're screwed and will screw up further. with that attitude you ARE screwed. don't let one petty assessment throw you.

Before the beginning of great brilliance and beauty, there first must be a period of complete chaos - I-Ching

It's your first HSC assessment. This is the beginning. Forget about it, that's the past. Like the above post has stated, don't let it affect you terribly. Anything can happen in the externals (e.g. your mark replacing another student's rank if you perform highly).

This might be a silly question but do your assessent marks actually contribute to your UAI? :shy:

What makes you 'assume' it's easier?

The HSC is basically like the VCE, whereby each subject has a different naming system to it (e.g. Ext 2. Mathematics corresponding to Specialist Mathematics). GTFO of the HSC forums if you continue to apply invalid assumptions.

Assessment marks count towards half your total UAI.. Or to be more accurate, your assessment RANKS count towards half your total UAI

I know right? 15% for speaking and 10% for representating.

:speechless:
Ouch
My first english assessment is 'split' between two tests
One is a listening task in a few weeks (which doesn't actually relate to anything we're doing at the moment.. Except how it relates to Belonging yadayadayada) and then a speaking task AFTER the holidays on As You Like It :jaw:
