I chose English extension1 Maths extension 1 Economics Legal Studies and Chemistry and studies of religion 1 for year 11, chemistry was a big mistake from the beginning i should have went with business studies because thats the type of thing im good at. so anyways, now im year 12 so i have dropped chemistry and picked up extension 2 english, and i would like to drop down to 2u maths because i hate 3u but my school wont allow me because they say it isnt enough units (11 units) arghhh how damaging will this be to my atar. anyone else in a similar situation?

Have you spoken to the principal about it? You should be allowed to do 10 units.

Them minimum is 10 units - don't turn up to class for it! I would recommend keeping 3U anyway as it makes 2U MUCH easier.

it doesnt make 2u any easier it just means u're generally smarter than the 2u ppl who dont do 3u and hence 2u is easier for u compared to the other non 3u ppl

Talk with your curriculum coordinator. Explain to them that dropping Extension Maths in order to focus upon your other subjects is a better optimisation of your time. I did the exact same thing and it was one of the best decisions I made. Especially because of the fact that you are doing Extension II English, and all of the demands that this course holds, you have a strong case to argue. The fact that you've got the intelligence to able to take up these course shows that you have the necessary self discipline to be able to use that additional time effectively. Considering that only ten units will count anyway, their refusal strikes me as somewhat harsh.

Best of Luck!

ext 1 maths is good if you're confident at it. But looking at ur subjects I would say dropping chem was a good choice, and if u find u can't cope, drop one of ur extensions (english/maths) regardless of what anyone tells u.
