And now its coming back to bite me in the ass with a simple questions. Can anyone help me?

1) Find f ' (0) for f(x)= 9 - x^2

2) Find the equation of the tangent to the curve f(x)= -x^2+3 at the point (3,-1)

Thanks for ze help. :)

1) differentiating f(x) gives -2x
substitute x with 0 and you'll end up with 0.

2) differentiate f(x) to find the gradient of the tangent, which is -2x. at the point (2, -1), x = 3, so you sub that into -2x, which gives you -6 i.e. the gradient of the tangent.

use your point gradient formula which is y-y1 = m (x-x1)

y +1 = -6 (x - 3)
y= -6x + 17 which is the equation of the tangent.

Um, these are really basic questions. So basic that they're probably aren't even asked in Question 1 of the HSC paper...

If you can't do these then what hopes do you have in harder applications, which I'd presume that you'd need in uni...

You should get working lol.

Yesh, I know they're very simple. And that's what I'm kicking myself over. I just don't trust my answers at all (turned out I had the first question correct :uhoh:)

Why don't you come back when you can solve |x - 1| = -5.
Most people fall for that. I remember you posting a similar question like that, no offence but it sounds like you fell for that question too(but really understood how it works afterwoods).

No need to be arrogant. She finished the HSC, you're probably still doing it.

Actually I didn't. I made it up :)

No need to be arrogant.

Hmm... you're right ... (where P(I'm still doing the HSC) = 0)

EDIT: Her profile says that she finishes her HSC in 2010... so what are you on? :S

You're a diffucult guy to understand. She did finish the HSC, it says HSC:2009. I don't get why people who finished the HSC is still here (unless of course you forgot how to do a few questions)

EDIT: Oohh..I think I get the story now, you were refering to the dude that quoted you. And she was refering to the poster. -.- lol
