I did something stupid. A few weeks ago I contacted someone from a website online to fix my university grades. At the time, I was overwhelmed, failing a major course, and honestly just desperate. He sounded confident, showed “proof, of previous jobs”

He did not even ask for upfront payment. I put the money in escrow on the site, and he only gets it if the job is completed successfully — which honestly made the whole thing feel more legit.

Now He’s telling me he’s almost done. He’s even shown what looks like backend screenshots and screen record of the university system , my students profile and the grade section he accessed. According to him, all that’s left is my final approval before he performs the actual change, because he says it’s a one-shot process to avoid suspicion.

That’s what’s scaring me.

He keeps telling me, “Once I execute this step, there’s no going back,” and suddenly the reality is hitting me. It felt like “just a small fix” at first, but now that it’s real — I’m panicking.

My brain is going in circles:

What if he actually did get into the system and now I’m tied to something that could ruin me academically and legally?

What if the screenshots are real and this becomes something I can’t undo?

I haven’t approved anything yet. He’s saying if I change my mind I still have to pay 60% of his fee for getting into the server or what not , but I feel sick to my stomach even thinking about letting this go through.

I know I made a stupid decision contacting him in the first place, and I’m not trying to justify it. I’m just terrified now. If I walk away, I don’t know what he’ll do with whatever information he has. If I go forward, I might be making the biggest mistake of my life.

I have contacted the support on anonymous-hackers-for-hire . com where I found the guy and they said as long as the hacker can show proof that he has completed the job he will get paid at least 50% .

I’m honestly lost. Has anyone dealt with something like this, or seen similar situations? What’s the safest way out of this without digging myself deeper?

no offence but this is actually crazy and dumb work

im sure failing a unit is much better than getting suspended from uni or something bigger if you do get caught

this person is a scammer btw not an actual student, they’re trying to promote the site. if you look up the url you can see examples of them doing similar things on reddit and quora.

that’s why they’re bringing up all the features etc of the site so hard (especially the escrow stuff) and then dropping the url at the end. obviously the site is fake no actual hacking is happening, the main page of the site is like comically stupid

You’re not stupid — you’re scared, overwhelmed, and you made a desperate decision under pressure. A lot of people do things like this when they’re drowning academically. What matters now is getting you out safely.

Let me be completely honest with you, but in a calm, non-judgmental way:

**1. This entire situation is a scam.

Every part of it matches known scam patterns.**

Sites like “anonymous-hackers-for-hire” are scam markets, not real hacking services.
No real hacker shows you backend screenshots, screen recordings, or talks about one-shot processes or “avoiding suspicion.” Those are theatrics designed to:

  • Make it feel like they’ve already “done work”
  • Make you feel trapped
  • Scare you into paying
  • Make you believe backing out will cause “consequences”

This is exactly how extortion-style scams work.

2. He absolutely does not have access to your university systems.

Universities have extremely strong authentication, MFA, audit logs, and detection.
A random freelancer from a hacker-for-hire site cannot get in.

The “backend screenshots” are fake or template dashboards scammers reuse.
He never needed access — he only needed you to think he did.

3. The “60% cancellation fee” is a pressure tactic.

Scammers always pretend:

  • the job is “almost done”
  • they “already put in effort”
  • you owe a partial fee “no matter what”

All of that is standard psychological manipulation.

You don’t owe him a cent.

**4. You are not legally or academically in trouble right now.

You haven’t approved anything. Nothing happened.**

Universities don’t punish students for getting scammed — especially when:

  • nothing was changed
  • you didn’t authorize an attack
  • no breach occurred
  • you didn’t pay for a completed illegal act

Right now, all that happened is:

You contacted a scammer on the internet who pretends to be a hacker.
That’s it.

**5. But DO NOT tell the scammer anything else.

Stop responding immediately.**

Every further message from you provides:

  • More leverage
  • More emotional hooks
  • More chances to pressure you

Block him on the platform.
Close the job.
Contact the platform and state that the “proof” is fake and the job was not completed.

You do not have to explain anything to the scammer.

If he tries to threaten you, he has:

  • No access to your university
  • No access to your accounts
  • No ability to “report” you
  • No power to do anything except send messages

Scammers rely heavily on the victim believing they have power — they don’t.

6. What about the information you sent him?

Typically these scammers only have:

  • your name
  • your university (if you told them)
  • maybe your student email
  • maybe screenshots you sent

This is not enough for identity theft or a real breach.
They are not sophisticated criminals — they are social engineers.

Their only play is trying to extort you emotionally.

7. Absolute safest way out:

Here’s the clearest way to get out safely without digging deeper:

✔ Stop responding to the scammer. Completely.

Silence removes their leverage.

✔ Contact the platform’s support again and state:

  • Screenshots appear fabricated
  • Job was not completed
  • You do not authorize release of ANY funds
  • You want the escrow cancelled due to fraud

Most of these “hacker marketplaces” resolve in favor of the buyer because they don’t want chargebacks.

✔ Do NOT approve anything.

No matter what threats he makes.

✔ Secure your accounts just in case

(Change your uni password, enable MFA.)

This is precautionary, not because he’s actually in.

✔ You do NOT need to report yourself to the university.

Nothing happened.
You are not involved in an actual system compromise.

**8. You are not trapped. You are not in danger.

You are dealing with a scammer trying to scare you into paying.**

You are allowed to walk away.
They cannot “force” payment.
They cannot change your grades.
They cannot get you in trouble unless you believe their threats.

Right now, you’re reacting to fear, not reality.

If you want, I can help you draft a message to the platform, or I can walk you step-by-step through what to do next.

You’re not alone — and this can be stopped cleanly.
