woah guys settle lol. A wise man once told me there are TEN whole weeks before the hsc where you learn nothing new and about SIXTEEN WEEKS of school and holidays BEFORE the ten weeks. THEN you will have to get your act together and that is plenty of time to review all your notes you have made AS YOU GO. Just dont stress too much guys just concentrate!!! TEN weeks of learning nothing. Thats a total of about 26 weeks so start now if u havnt already and u will be fine
um, no.....26 weeks is half a year.

you have your trials, usually wk 3/4 term 3. you have the rest of term 3 + holidays + 1 week back after holidays to study for your hsc

depending on when your trials are, and how long your holidays are, that's about 12weeks to study.

and as for the learning nothing new - many schools will still be learning new material after the trials :)

dukey: yay i'm not the only one! i still get the required sleep + study so all good

but i can't work great in the mornings so i'm going back to sleeping at normal times waking up at normal times :)
I just stay up real late, then take arvo naps when I need them. I don't actually do work often though.

I've been doing really bad up to and including the trials this year averaging only 50% for each subject. I just want to know what mark do i need to get in the hsc for each subject to get 65 uai and is it too late. Thanks

BTW i do 2units maths, ext1 maths, economics, physics, standard english and engineering studies.

its not too late, you'll really have to ace the externals though, you do high scaling subjects so you'll need all 80s at least but then those subjects are hard so it'll be difficult to get those 80s... In my opinion if you get all 80s in the externals then you'll get around 80s-90 UAI

yeah same.
but then has your school got a high ranking ?
if it does , then you've nothing to worry about - seriously :). like ahen said , ace your externals , and you`ll be set =D

good luck !

eh how does the ranking system work between a large group of yr 12 and a small group yr 12 in different schools?

is it practically harder for the smaller group since due to the small number?

Studying tactics

Make friends with a library (preferably the State Library as they have famous dictators patrolling the hallways, urging you not to talk). Perhaps the reason for why I didn’t do as well for my internal examinations, is because I had not familiarised myself with Libraries yet. Once, considered by me, to be scary places populated by the homeless and the craziest of nerds, they turned out to be great institutions for studying…and the homeless. The fact is, at home you have distractions: your computer, books, TV, movies, gay porn etc etc. In the library, you’re almost forced to study and there’s nothing else to do. The first 6-hour study day will be difficult, the second will go slightly faster and by the third it will just fly by.
The only way that I think I saved my HSC is by going to the library every day for 2 weeks and doing 6 hours of study each day. (I only wish that I started earlier than 2 weeks prior to the HSC).
Don’t type up your notes. Instead, manually write them down, summarising from your text book and cross-referencing them to the syllabus (this is for text book subjects). The syllabus is your greatest friend. Study it and remember it. Make sure you can answer each syllabus dot point.
For subjects such as English, memorise your practice essays. If need be, tape them on a tape recorder or record them in mp3 format and listen to them a lot – and I mean A LOT. Once you can quote easily from the texts you are doing, then you can safely say that you have prepared yourself enough.
I'm motivated. I put my ass on the gear...er...I mean 'my brain'.

Um, how can I get access to the state library then? My municipal library lacks a lot of books and tho I go there three times a week, it is an absolute jungles with the kids roaring all the times! :argue: I have waited for months just to borrow 'Cinema Paradiso' and 'Saturday' and 'Da vinci Code'. I'd better give up, I guess.

whoa i completely forgot about this thread, as for some reason it unsubscribed me. The State Library is near Martin Place train station. If it's far away from you, you'll have to use the local library. The library will quiet down when it gets closer to exam; if not, just ask the librarians to keep the noise down.

Libraries for me weren't about getting resources, but about sitting in a productive environment that allowed you to revise and memorise your notes.

thanks for that mate, it was reasuring! very motivational.
i have trouble moving on from my bad marks.
for example i did quite well in all of my exams except biology.
now bilology is one of the easier subjects, so i know that this terrible mark will stuff me up big time.
and all i can think about is how crap ive gone, and i worry about it constantly.

what i would like to know is how your ranks count towards your UAI, or hsc marks.
im confused to how they are included.
is it only your ranks that count?
how do your marks count?
hsc is 50:50, rite? half internal assessments and half hsc exams, is that correct?
i would really just like a massive overview/summery of how it works.

ive really got to stress less.
what study plans/advice can people give me?
i am ever so curious to know

all replies are welcome.

please respond to

thank you!!!!!
have a lovely day

They wouldn't've given out advice if they didn't want anyone to take it. Just so long as you're not selling it, lol.

Yeah, it is really great advice, wish I had the motivation to act upon it...
I should be doing work on my PIP for Society & Culture, but I haven't even started, I'm a bad procrastinator, any tips on overcoming that hurdle?

As my mummy says, - "...If you're not the best, then you're just like the rest."
