Hi everyone ,
So I'm just wondering what atar you would get if you got two band sixes , 2 band fours and two band threes , compared to a student who got high band fives , and one band four .
I'm just wondering if someone who got two band Sixes would perform better than someone who got high band fives !
Thanks !

Highly dependent on what subjects you both do.
Really depends on your aggregate mark rather than what bands you got, where your aggregate mark will be affected by scaling. This is why students doing high scaling subjects such as mathematics extension 2 may not have any band 6s but can wipe out students doing low scaling subjects such as industrial technology but get band 6s. This is because a 90 in industrial technology does not entirely mean this is a better result than a 80 in mathematics extension 2.

So what if the band sixes were in say , ancient and legal . But their band fours and threes were in modern , general maths , studies of religion and standard English for the first student
Whereas the band six was English standard , and their band fives were modern , legal , studies of religion and history extension, and their band four was in ancient for the second student
How does that work ?
I'm just going off random subjects . Will the English standard overide ancient and legal as it is scaled higher ?

Scaling is carried out afresh each year, and is applied to the raw marks. Bands are not relevant to scaling - completely separate from each other.

So is English standard scaled better than ancient and legal ? Can a high band five/ low band six in English override a band 6 in ancient and legal ?

Read again. Scaling is carried out afresh each year. Bands are completely irrelevant to scaling. Bands are also dependent on the year. You're not going to get a straight answer because your question is predicated on incorrect assumptions. To say yes or no to your question is not accurate either way.

What do you mean by override? Very strange word to use...
