and @ addikaye03: to top state in subjects -> requirement is dedication. i dont think the 2-3 people you know cut it.
by your criteria half the state can top it

I meant natural intelligence. They done things in class that was incomparable. Real abstract thinking etc, no doubt will still be the leaders of 2morrow. One kid in my classes had a IQ of 174 lol smart but lazy though, as with many high IQ people.

lol yes it has been tested and validated. He was offered a position in Menca (school for geniuses in US). and yea ive never been professionally tested or anything, i done the test on the net once and got 135, but i think average is 104 so ill take it lol

174 isnt THAT high. I think my IQ (dont trust me on this) was tested at 172. And theres a guy in our year whose on 184. But all the IQ does is test for specific types of intelligence, it cant mash them all together into one big "intelligence" test. I can kickass at english/humanities, but cant do maths at all. IQ tests dont mean anything, and they dont mean you'll do well in the HSC.

Not that high? You know Einstein was like 165. 130 is considered be genius threshold. I knew the guy that was top in Australia and his IQ was 189, but he died. So i dont really believe you sorry, we're talking a very very very small amount of people with IQ that high.

^hm...IQ is not the best way to measure the intelligence anyway. For myself, my IQ would be like mid 100s. If not just above 100. But I have other useless talents that help me go through HSC.

yeah i never said High IQ=High UAI or anything like that. I just meant that such a kid has great potential, even though he hasnt acted upon it yet. But judging by georgefren's post, every second person is 170+ IQ

HSC hasn't got much to do with IQ really. It's about how you play the system. If you are taught well enough, with some decent IQ like 100s, you can still get 100 UAI...

True to a point, but an IQ of 170's is by god insane

Highest IQ now is about 214 i think. About 1 percent have an IQ over 160, im afraid. Thats quite a few people really. 130 is NOT genius level, i think just under 10 percent have an IQ over it. And on the Cattell IQ system to get into mensa (the top 2.2% of people) you need about 148. So its not really that uncommon to get in the 170s.

That makes sense...it's all asians' mums dream to see their kids becoming doctors. (my mum is not an exception sorry mum!)

to LordPc: 170 seems pretty damn high. I can only hope to reach 110 bar. But I don't know what the heck is IQ test and whatever....I only know that 100 is the normal IQ...since I am normal I should have 100s..

I think it's more of a matter of "can" not "should".

But state ranking is really luck-based too...

what? those numbers aren't IQ scores. einstein had a IQ of around 180 and if you are 140+ you are in the top 0.x percentile of the population. if you want an accurate IQ score go to your GP and ask for a referral.

I can't believe how this thread has eventuated... The list was done ages ago!

Does anyone know what Emmanuel Marinos' marks were? I know he did 3 English, 4 Maths, 3 Classical Greek and 2 Chem (and funniliy enough, state rankings of 3rd only for both Greek courses); he must've gotten pretty high marks though to get 100. Does anyone know how he went?

With the IQ debate, I think I've heard that Stephen Hawking's IQ is freaking unbelieveable, over 200.

no way hawking is 230. he is smart, but 230 is ridiculous, I think he was quoted to have something in the high 200's on a simpsons episode though, so perhaps there was some confusion

(I believe they estimated it, but da vinci was seriously a psychopath when it comes to anything. a polymath I believe. Hawking is just a smart physics man)
