Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon

I'm going to continue 2014 on here for now

- We simply start over again, if people want to ask questions make sure to stick to Complex Numbers and maybe Polynomials firstly and then move on as time goes on

- non-2014ers are encouraged not to answer straight away initially later on we'll just slip into anyone answering like we did this year

Thanks Sy for all your work throughout the year, I appreciate it. I guess I will be saying my farewells to maths now.

Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon

Hi, for part i) is the answer supposed to be: let z= x + iy, where x and y are real, and then equating real and imaginary parts?
then we arrive at x=2at and y=at^2, which we can then rearrange to get x^2 = 4ay?
Yep

Didn't it say clockwise not counter clockwise? (I apologise if I misunderstood the Q)
My apologies..u understood correctly:

ii) ->OZrot -45 = z cis -pi/4= (2at + iat^2)(1/sqrt(2) - 1/sqrt(2)i) ????

Yes that is the first step, now try and find that complex number in terms of x and y, then try and find Cartesian equation

I think it would be good if someone if bothered can compile all the questions that were posted here in a pdf and make and give it to the 2014ers in a 4U marathon 2014 thread and continue the tradition?

A few weeks ago I started making a rough compilation of all the questions I have posted on bos (mostly just random keywords that would jog my memory to the question.) Could be useful if I ever tutor or teach again.

Thanks for volunteering Spiral. I appreciate the work.
