Piano:
La Valse d'Amelie - Yann Tiersen

I'm only playing three songs. I've chosen one of them, and I have to perform in 4 days. It's so awesome :mad1:

I'm thinking Sunflower Slow Drag by Joplin and Pachabel's Canon, though.

Hey people,

I have a question that's puzzling me. I play classical piano (AMEB, etc) and I'm (obviously) playing piano for my HSC next month. Now to the question.

According to my piano teacher who teaches at other schools, you DON'T get extra marks for memory (ie. you memorise all the pieces you're doing ... which is what I have done). BUT according to my music teacher at school, you DO get extra marks for memory work.

Which is it?

I've gotten almost full marks with my Trial performances (15/15s and 18-19/20) but I'd just like to get this controversial topic sorted. Thanks :)

I'm doing Music 2 BTW.

To Sparks:

I've been speaking to a lady who wrote the current syllabus and she maintains that you can still get 100% even if you use music. Memorisation is not at all essential, and is preferable if you think you might make some silly mistakes due to your memory faulting... well thats the idea I got off her.

Given that, I'm still practicing and fully intending to play from memory... I think overall it represents a greater degree of professionalism.

Killing In The Name - Rage Against the Machine. (have to change the "fuck's" repeated throughout it)

Money - Pink Floyd. (i'm using my wah pedal in the solo and verse to give it my own feel. Probably using a flanger too.)

Both on guitar.
haha got to change the "fuck's"
you got about 17 of them to change

"Damn you i wont do what you tell me..."

I'm doing:

Guitar/Backing Vocals

Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Guitar/Lead Vocals

Pretty Handsome Awkward - The Used

Added a heap of solo parts to the RHCP songs, added a new solo to The Used song, hopefully if I nail both the guitar and vocal parts, I should be okay.

You do not directly gain any marks for performing your pieces from memory. Wether or not you perform with music makes no difference to the marker.

However, a lot of the time it will still be ideal to play the piece from memory - it allows you to be more "in touch" with the piece, and it "eliminates the barriers between you and the music" - and in that sense you can gain more marks.

PS. HELL YES FINISHED PERFORMANCE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah boi!! nailed sight singing!
