I understand how to solve for empirical formula, but I don't get why the weight of the product is given, or how to bridge finding moles to empirical formula. I have attached the question as a photo.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

There is a similar question to the one that you have posted, where the only difference is that the figures are doubled, as follows:

When 10.24g lithium metal was allowed to react with excess oxygen, it was completely converted to lithium oxide. 22.10g of lithium oxide was formed. Calculate the empirical formula for lithium oxide.

The solution to this version of the question is as follows:









Hence empirical formula lithium oxide = Li₂O
