The alarm has a back-up lead acid battery, and it recognises when the powerpoint is turned off. If it does, it starts ringing.

It prevents people from coming into the house trying to turn off the alarm system via the powerpoint basically.

So that's why someone's alarm in my neighbourhood went off in a street blackout !

tbh the experience was somewhat dampened by my friend harassing me with "THIS IS NAPOLEON'S TOMB! TAKE A SECOND TO TAKE THAT IN! IT'S FUCKING NAPOLEON DUDE! WHY AREN'T YOU APPRECIATING THIS AS MUCH AS I AM? YOU'RE NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THIS EXPERIENCE!" just because I spent most of the time walking around and soaking up the visuals, rather than reading the shitload of historical information they had on the sides.
