what i posted:
It's all a crock of shit, nobody can predict UAIs.
I never said mine were shit. Getting your hopes up on some bullshit UAI prediction is a crock-of-shit. Can you honestly tell me that your school is able to figure in every single variable there could possibly be in every single result in the state of every subject? Because as im sure you know... its not just your own marks that effect your UAI

its just an estimate
thats why its called
estimate
duh

at least itd tell u like within point something
eg
99.6 instead of 99.8 or seomthing
.2 doesnt sound a lot
but it is

as for like not only ur marks
thats what the rest of the grade is for
thats what the past years are for
thats what comparing is for

they wouldnt give estimates if it was just a bunch of crap

plus, just coz u got an estimate, doesnt mean u need to get ur hopes up/down. Its not the estimates fault. dont blame the estimate! ahha

er...what was the question again? I've forgotten (on a side note, I've made arrangements with our exam supervisor - she MAY be giving me an entire copy of the exam paper to post here, just waiting for permission)

Regarding the UAI predictions debate: This has been done sooo many times. UAI predictions, when done properly (like my careers advisor does, with proper statistical application) are a good indicator of your expectable outcome (to within 5 percentile ranks, not decimal ranks) if you continue to perform as you have throughout the year. In selective schools this is particularly important because the diminishing returns (ie 95->96 is much harder than 94->95) mean that any extra effort you put in will bump you up, and so if like Karnevil you do a lot of work the extra effort will (hopefully) lead you to exceeding your estimate.

Basically, UAI predictions don't factor in an increase in study typical of STUVAC. They are accurate to a degree given the information available, and shouldn't be completely disregarded. But they are an estimate and not a prediction, which many people seem to forget.

UAI estimates are used by schools for various reasons, depending on the school and the student. You may not believe this, but careers advisers are well aware of the different attitudes their students have to the UAI and adjust their estimates accordingly. Let me say here that if they are afraid that you will take the estimate as a done deal they will shave a few percent off it to get you working. If they think you will gas yourself for getting something too low (like 94 instead of 98) they'll meet you halfway and tell you to study. If, like me, they know you don't get stressed out by numbers they'll give it to you straight (very uncommon). I did particularly badly in my assessments this year and was told to expect high seventies. I still remember the hidden smile on my career advisor's face, though, when I indignantly told him "bullshit! I'm getting 90s, you watch". He was told to get me working, and he succeeded.

In theory, the UAI estimate is supposed to be for helping students select their preferred tertiary course (Uni or TAFE) but in practice it's one of many motivators at the schools' disposal. At least, that's how it works in selective schools. I wouldn't put too much weight behind my estimate, because I know it's been manipulated to get me working towards the best REAL UAI I can get, and so has yours.

yeah, that

but i dont think thye manipulate it our school (selective) coz peopld actually need an indication, not motivation

Perhaps we're so laissez faire that we don't bother working until STUVAC. Fort Street is known as the most left wing of Sydney selective schools...if ever there's an Australian Lenin, he's coming here.

Regarding the above, we can be confident because we know we did well. I'm sure you feel the same way about yourself. As for my dance, I am without any doubt about my performance. I've always done very well in Japanese and my grade in general is of an extremely high standard. I think some other schools read our work some time, ask them. But yes, I am delightfully certain that I will be hitting the six, as I'm sure many other people here will also. Everyone here has shown a large bank of knowledge and understanding, which will have shone through in the exam.

I thought the listening was hell easy, compared to all the practice ones I'd been doing, adn the comprehension was pretty sweet too. I think I was stressing tho, coz when I read thru my compositions they jumped all opver the place, despite my plans. :(

and I wrote the weirdest things... like, inviting someone over to my host families house for dinner
"We dont have forks here, so if u wanna eat with a fork please bring your own. PLease dont bring chopsticks. We have lots of chopsticks.

The listening test was really easy. Compared to last years that is. Also most definately compared to the Masumi Sorell Trial.

I didn't like the reading passage about the bloke leaving school too much. Nor did I like either choice in Question 13. I chose (a) though.

The Reading and Responding section was too damned easy. I chose 12 (b) for the first writing and I thought question 9 was pretty easy too.

みんな、おめでとう!

The Sorrell Trial was cruel. And she made English mistakes too, which got me laughing and not thinking about the talking people.

For section three I think I did (b) for both questions, and I particularly liked the one about future plans. I told them all about how the Japanese community of Sydney hasn't got any Japanese speaking specialist doctors blah blah blah government blah blah blah help them blah blah blah multicultural et cetera. Too bad it was only 6 marks.

I still can't remember which structures are "senior structures" and which are extension constructions... I just used what fit, as advocated by the notes from the marking centre ;)

last question...did someone ask for da answer?
i think she solved his problems...where he didn't know what he wanted to do....then she asked him what he likes, what he plans to do....he likes listening to music and travel...he plan to work for a year then travel overseas with da intention to learn english....and he finds it boring to just go to uni and become a salary man...he wants to work at a travel company and travel to other countries?....hence through her questions the answer to his problem had been revealed

Oh that one! I said she asked him what his problem was, then discussed ways he could narrow down his options, like where his interests lie, what he doesn't want to do, what he'd like to do in his future etc. I basically made a conversational translation of the interview, a covert trick I learned last year. It works brilliantly :D

yeah the listening for the sorrell trial was hard, i heard it was coz she arrived late to the tape recording plce
and she didnt want to pay extra
so she talked faster

and had less gap time
