well considering apple is very stingy about ssd i dont think inserting is a great idea however an external harddrive might work

on apple an external part will be considered foreign and wont be able for you to use the device due to the software on a device telling that its a non genuine apple part. Also the parts are literally soldered on and even if you take them off the entire thing wouldnt work due to the software once again ( I did electronics at school)

he’s not the only one who got it to work

directorfeng on yt got it to work too. it’s a much slower video, maybe not as good as dosdude1’s as he doesn’t give explanations. it also has irrelevant stuff for the first 15 minutes, so maybe for directorfeng’s u can skip the first 15 min:

they used the apple genuine part and the apple genuine repair kit, not saying it aint IMPOSSIBLE to do but i still wouldnt do it

I know someone who somehow bought a second hand phone that cloned the apple system like exactly the same and it worked liek an apple phone until she later realised that it was a clone when she got it repaired

No it worked exactly the same as a normal apple device

the software used was an ipsw file to restore the neo in dfu mode. this isn’t jailbreaking. the ipsw file is downloadable from apple’s servers and can be used to restore macs and also create virtual machines too.

they had to do that because the 1TB ssd they put into the neo would not have had the macos system on it.

jailbreaking is a different process for ios devices, not macs.
