I don't know what was going through my head when I was in year 10. But I picked Maths and English Advanced (which is normal enough), Japanese (was doing it in year 10), Geography, Legal Studies and Enterprise Computing (new subject that was based off of IPT). At the time, I guess they made sense, but now that I am in year 11 I'm freaking out.

None of them have particularly good scaling, and the uni course i wanna do requires at least an 85. My Japanese class is kind of small, and I'm only kind of alright at it. Also it is a very difficult subject to keep up with (lots of memorisation and skills heavy) ; and it is hard to find resources online to help me practice for it in a way that one can do with something like bio or chem.

The same can be said for geography; I am good at it, but not many of my classmates do it either so I can't really share notes or discuss. In fact, I am doing it through distance education, so i guess that sort of affects things as well.

Legal Studies is okay, but even that is sort of hard to wrap my head around as it is a lot of memorization paired with essay writing. I don't really know how to write essays for legal, as I am used to only specifically write essays for either HSIE or English.

Enterprise Computing is the only subject that seems quite easy; not much memorization or practice required, just projects mostly. However with this, I worry that the scaling might be terrible, as because it is a new subject there's no reports on how good or bad it scales. Because it is new, I also run into a similar issue with Geography and Japanese, wherein it is kind of obscure and hard to find practice for.

As for English Adv, it seems alright. But for Maths Advanced, I am absolutely terrible at maths. More specifically during the exams; I know how to do the processes, but I can't really apply them that well in exam questions. I am considering dropping down to standard if I do bad in year 11, but I heard that the content in maths standard is vastly different to that of maths advanced.

what can i do to maximise the subjects i've got, despite them being not as favourable?

My advice is that if you flop term 1 and 2 assignments (less than 50%) for math adv, just drop. I did and I caught up on all the content in like a month and did pretty well for the prelim. It is vastly different, but its a lot easier to grasp and is much more practical stuff so dont stress. Secondly, if youre applying for early entry a lot of unis dont care what subjects you do, only that you do well at them. During year 12, the 'meh subjects' can actually pull you up. I did visual art and it ended up saving my ass.
