ok so my sister keeps fucking downloading shit from limewire and it continuously uses up bandwidth which results in the net being slowed to an almost unusable speed at some stage throughout this month and i'm fucking goddamn sick of it, so i want to block that motherfucker from being used from her laptop. i read up about this on the net, and i blocked ports 6346 - 6347 like they instructed, but then i downloaded limewire to test it out and it uses some random port. so how can i find out what ports her limewire is using? or is there some other way to block it

wot type of router does yew have d00d?!
Look for Port Forwarding.
Mine has built in rules and you can just add Gnutella to the block list and it should be blocked.

No point in blocking the ports as limewire is able to dynamically select ports.
Unless you block the entire range which may interfere with some other apps.

If your router supports 3rd party firmware try something like DD-WRT this will give you complete bandwidth control.

Or if you want to be a bastard, you could rewire your network so that your directly connected to the internet. Everyone will have to connect through you.
Of course this would mean your computer will need to be on whenever she needs to use the internet, and you will need to set-up a proxy, for her and everyone else. This method will make certain she does not have a direct connection to the internet and hence no P2p will be working without your consent.
And of course with the proxy all the traffic will be logged and you can view what she visits or even turn her internet off.

Or simply, just talk to her and try sharing the bandwidth??

sorry, i thought it was shareware. Are you downloading bandwidth manager lite? i just grabbed that and i think that's free.

it's also pretty easy to use.

look for LW's port range on her PC and block the whole lot. If you can change it so you can see what ports are used and are able to change these settings, then you would be able to change the port range so it doesn't interfere with any other applications.

Also, log in to your router and block the ports associated with Gnutella, if you can (I'm sure you would, it would be in Port Forwarding). That should screw it up pretty bad.

Or even more so, if you usage goes over your limit for another month, throw her laptop out the window.
