How on earth do u install tar files??? (1 Viewer)

Sorry I have no idea.
I have the program firefox 1.5.0.1.tar and

installation instructions was:

Extract the tarball in the directory where you want to install Firefox:

tar -xzvf firefox-1.5.0.1.tar.gz

This will create a firefox subdirectory of that directory.

but that only extracted the file...i dunno how to install it!
*vent* :(

check out the folder, if there's a setup executable then run that but if not try running firefox from there.

"tar -xzvf" is a unix command but you can still look into the folder to check if firefox is already installed there.

it was like one of the 1st command we get to learn on uni's unixes :p

o yeah ubuntu comes with firefox 1.07 but i want it updated to 1.5
like for deb files its quite easy just paste it in the root directory and it comes up but for this im confused. What are u meant to do after you extract it?
