Say my rank is horrible in some of my subjects. I'll give a brief example.

14/14 in English
6/12 in Legal Studies
5/11 in Business studies
3/3 in Maths (Deviation is so small though)
6/12 for Biology

In a school that's ranked around 150th in the state.

What I want to know is, if I go really well in my externals (say 2 90s and 3 80s) how badly will my rank affect my mark. (assuming other students don't do as well as me)

Thanks.

As half your final mark will be coming from your internals and they will be moderated to reflect your rank and the strength of your cohort then your ranks will have an effect. e.g. you give 14/14 in English - meaning that your internal mark will be the same as the lowest exam mark earned by your class so if you get 90 in the exam and the lowest exam mark is 40 then yiour final HSC mark will be the average of 90 + 40 = 65. This is why you have to perform all year and not just in the final exams. Of course if you get 90 and then the lowest exam mark is 90 then you get 90. You can improve your marks by working at improving your exam mark.

Your school's rank will have no effect as the schools will be re-ranked on your cohort's performance. It is just an indication of how your school has performed in the past.

What's ur school rank?
If it's really high, then ur internal will not be affected that much.
Just do ur best in the externals.
