I KNOW, RIGHT!

There is absolutely no reason why you should have 40 minutes (!!!) to write an essay.

Admittedly, I only get an hour per essay in uni, but there's at least some time to pause and think.

Still, it would be nice of them to reduce the pressure a bit (and the hand strain) and just give you as long as you need (within reason). Oh noes, higher quality essays!

OMG. 1400 words, I wish ! However I am posed to ask what was your mark ? For me a 800-900 words is the easy mark to reach with legible writing, still if I really had to I could perhaps push to 1000.
I got 90% for that particular one, as I said I was surprised that I got that much in.
Lengthy writing doesnt always equivilate to marks at our school, still have to make it clear and manageable. My writing was fine in that though.

And its interesting how writing doesn't matter if you're stronger or not, its all practice and technique, I'm not particularly strong really and I just got it all down.

I usually write 8-9 pages in English assessments within that time period.

I think I can manage 700 - 1000 depending on my state of mind and how quickly I can summon ideas. If I were to write the word 'essay' over and over for 40 minutes...

You should be aiming for about 1000 words, u can achieve this with a detailed plan (which will allow you continully without a rest), memorised quotes, statisitics

lol i don't believe in prepared essays, might as well just wing the question, I think i'm far more adaptable that way than to remember a whole essay

i get around 3-4 pages with small handwriting (god i hate it >.<) so probably about 1400 words

Ms. Repin (of Sefton) tells her class that you should be aiming for 1400 words in 40 minutes to most effectively convey your ideas.

That's a bit hyperbolic: 1200 from past experience is normally enough to give yourself a chance of scoring full marks (if that is what you aiming for).

40 minutes should be 4-5 pages minimum. Averaging 250-300 words a page, that'd be 1100 to be safe.

hmmm 1400.. you must write 35 words per minute... lol i'd assume the writing is almost... hard to read?

i'd be aiming for 850 i guess.. but i can push it to 950 - 1000 is the whole thing is memorised..
