False, usyd is good for teaching and pharmacy.truth
+ 1I'm glad a 10 year old knows more from what he has read from basement azns that have no idea what they are saying on a student forum, than what I know from first hand experience.
so basically those events are better because they're exclusive to you engineers onlyBut at USyd the Engineering societies are the ones that have these events whereas, UNSW is for like everyone (ew) and also SHADES.
BoSers = azns that love UNSWHence why i said "seem". I'm just going off what i have read on BOS, whirlpool and heard from friends and older students.
It's in the CBD, you would make something to match the skyline. Hence, ew.It's representative of the time it was built, there are buildings of similiar style that were built around the same time at other universities (i.e. Macquarie) but they aren't as prominent as the tower or in the CBD so nobody cares. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brutalist_architecture
Well, we have SUEUA(enggsoc), then a different society for every engineering discipline, then women of engineering society, then we have science and all the branches off that, arts and all the branches of thhat, etc.I don't doubt that, but i haven't had any problems with making friends here and there are regular events and societies. The two big societies at UTS are EngSoc and BIG (the IT society).
You only did 2U and you're doing engg?I only did 2unit, if i remember correctly (HSC Plus is different this year) there were very few bonus points on offer for 2unit and i didn't get a band 6 in it anyway. Even if the cut offs are higher in main round there were places left in what i was applying to during the late and final rounds and they dropped into the high 80s.
Well, from what the OP was asking for it is better.Just because one uni has more areas to specialise in than another doesn't instantly mean the other is useless. If that was the case then you'd have to just admit that UNSW > Usyd. All this establishes is that if you want to get in on the latest boom like Petroleum or Mining Engineering or are set on a relatively specific field you are better off going to UNSW or possibly Usyd.
But you did. You said you thought it was a joke and joked about it with your UTS friends. It's not me personally saying that Usyd Engineering is a joke, but people definitely do. You seem to be getting really defensive over a couple of sentences i made in a two paragraph post about UNSW vs UTS, if you think Usyd engineering is good then that's good for you - i don't think the OP will suddenly change their mind and it certainly won't stop people from putting the Usyd logo into "Engineering fail" memes. This is just proving that anyone will defend the university they go to and what people have already mentioned about the amount of Asians on BOS, at UNSW and all the praise of UNSW on BOS not being a coincidence.
yep
Well, the engineering stuff is mostly engineering students plus all the girls that want to root them (there's a lot. It's USyd) but others are accepted too.so basically those events are better because they're exclusive to you engineers only
have fun at that sausage fest
i know you will
but for the 90% of us who aren't homosexual...
Nope. I make my own timetable and then just block out the times on the system and click "make my timetable similar" and then get what I want.UNSW is better if you want to make your own timetable and not be like USYD, where the staff give you a timetable, and you gotta change some stuff yourself. :/
Are you serious? The cut-off for law was 99.65 in 2012. How did he get in with an ATAR of ~60?no. lol
My friend got ~60 for his ATAR, does law at UNSW and gets distinctions. lol
He got ~70 in standard english. lol
Indigenous Australian brah. Are you serious? The cut-off for law was 99.65 in 2012. How did he get in with an ATAR of ~60?
What source do you suggest then?BoSers = azns that love UNSW
Whirlpool = Matty G
Good sources.
Oh sorry i didn't quote what that sentence was in reply to. Was just saying a lot of the UTS events are run by engineering societies too. But since you've brought it up, we don't really have generic societies for each engineering discipline but there are social societies which appeal to the different disciplines and anyone else who wants to join i.e. ProgSoc, RoboSoc, UTS Motorsports.Well, we have SUEUA(enggsoc), then a different society for every engineering discipline, then women of engineering society, then we have science and all the branches off that, arts and all the branches of thhat, etc.
What relevance is that? Almost all unis suggest 3unit maths as assumed knowledge, but that amounts to nothing. I did a bridging course for 3unit, and all UTS students had to pass a readiness test (i did) or enrol in a Fundamental Maths subject. You only did 2U and you're doing engg?
Yet you have an opinion on USyd's Engg programme which requires (at least) 3U maths.
So they've changed it this year I see...Nope. I make my own timetable and then just block out the times on the system and click "make my timetable similar" and then get what I want.
I have a day off this semester. ^.^
First-hand.What source do you suggest then?

I just think that before you talk down on other uni's engg programmes you should at least be up to their standards. What relevance is that? Almost all unis suggest 3unit maths as assumed knowledge, but that amounts to nothing. I did a bridging course for 3unit, and all UTS students had to pass a readiness test (i did) or enrol in a Fundamental Maths subject.
Physics is assumed knowledge at most unis for engineering - did you do physics?
yeppers. Changed right at the beginning. It's like they knew I was coming. HahaSo they've changed it this year I see...
Not bad, guess USYD is now ramping up their game. How about the server hours? do they still close at around 10pm or is it almost 24/7 like UNSW's?yeppers. Changed right at the beginning. It's like they knew I was coming. Haha
Fair enough, but im not failing maths at uni so i think it's a bit of a stretch to say im not up to standards. I wouldn't have even bothered with something like Electrical but i can handle the maths i'll need for software (i.e. not a whole lot more than the maths in engineering core).I just think that before you talk down on other uni's engg programmes you should at least be up to their standards.
They still have to do all the normal math subjects, i think they do MM1 in second semester and have the option to do MM2 over summer if they wish. It's pretty much for people who did general, mature age students etc. The tutor i had for my bridging course reckoned it was pretty much a slower paced bridging course to get anyone up to speed for first year maths. You can do fundie maths with engineering? Or would you have to do the regular units the following year?
Yeah ok, sorry was just being a bit of a dick to illustrate how assumed knowledge isn't always neccesary.Physics is only assumed knowledge for the physics courses at uni. I could've done fundamental physics to get me up to speed for Engineering Mechanics, but instead I did Regular which is for people that did physics and got below a 96 ATAR or below 90 in HSC Physics. I did okay in it, and could've done engg mech but I didn't like it so I decided to swap to Chem engg, which you don't really need physics for. So...?
The situation at my school was strange, we had two 3 unit classes in year 11 and the teachers were trying to get one whole class to drop. They succeeded. Anyway yeah I agree, i should have just stuck with 3unit - if i could redo year 11/12 i would have kept it and put more effort into maths but i can't do that now. I did pretty shit in 2unit even because i was so lazy but that hasn't come back to haunt me too much yet.The difference in situation for you and me is that if I had've done physics at my school my ATAR would've been hindered because there was no *proper* teacher, whereas you could've done 3 unit and it would've just been an extra unit and extra knowledge.
I guess. Not bad, guess USYD is now ramping up their game. How about the server hours? do they still close at around 10pm or is it almost 24/7 like UNSW's?

kYeah ok, sorry was just being a bit of a dick to illustrate how assumed knowledge isn't always necessary.
