Hey, I just got into B Comm in UNSW and I was jus wondering how hard is it going to be to average distinctions. For my HSC I studied just like 30mins per day or something. Do I need to study like 3hours per day or something if I wanna get distinctions?

It really depends on the course, not the degree.

I know friends who got distinctions in their commerce courses in S1/2 and didn't do a lot.

I did a commerce course and got a D session 2, I probably put a few hours work in over the week to make sure I'd done my readings for the tute, and was on top of the material.

As long as you keep on top of the work, you should be fine!

Really, it's not that hard.

Consistency is the key. Stay on top of your work and keep up to date

i worked at an employment agency, they only add that you have a specific degree; 2 things that ring bells is honours and work experience. get either of both of those and they will stick out much better than a degree.

i did NOTHING for the entire 2006 and ended with 1 D (for LEGT1711).

So yeah, as others have said, consistency is the key

not that hard to get since the first year subjects (besides actuarial studies) dont require immense amounts of aptitude. but with that said, dont underestimate the subjects. if you answer all your weekly review questions for your tutes, getting a D is a pretty done deal.

On the flipside, I've spoken to HR and the asked them what do they look for. Without any hesitation, she replied, "Marks". For graduates - they look for marks firstly, then cull. I think the rationale is because within the 'high-achievers' there are bound to be a few all-rounders. Why look for all-rounders with Credits when there are all-rounders with HDs?

I think a D average is nice - good enough to get you into most graduate jobs.

If all you have is a degree, then of course its great too have awesome marks, sticks out from the other thousand graduates who skim passes.

It really depends on the individual. You gotta figure out what works for you.

I know people who study their ass off and get credits and then i know people who study squat and get HDs.

But in general, most of the commerce courses are pretty straightforward if u do the work (apart from actuarial subjects and some other exceptions).

Hey srkrox! we are on the same boat!LOL Except I am trying to do that in Usyd..

I heard uai97 and a distinction average is quite competitive =]
I also heard it's quite easy to get distinction ave in unsw.

Hi srkrox,

I am not sure which degree to go yet. I was going to go for UTS law (which I got offered) but then I really wants to go Usyd for Com/law, so I basically have three options:

1. doing UTS law then transfer
2. do commerce then transfer (please let me in, usyd or unsw!)
3. do com/law DFEE at either

I think second one is the best option (of course it depends on how Late round goes) because it's much easier to get D-ave in straight com than com/law and DFEE is gonna kill me if I dont make the transfer.

Good luck to both! :)
