he doesn't. you can't 'forget' someone just give him time and it'll hurt him less as time goes on. in the meantime just be his friend, you don't need to give him advice, and whenever he goes on one of his little spiels, let him get it out of his system (but also don't treat him differently because of it, otherwise it'll become a self-fulfilling prophecy) and just continue on with something more positive, like um bowling

I would agree with you but its possible to forget their importance entirely. Suddenly you find yourself in a situation where that person gets mentioned, and you get a bit of a shock with how "out of your system" this person is. You haven't heard their name or thought about them in ages and wonder why you cared about them so much in the first place.

Its a good feeling, to know that you're growing as a person and that you've moved on entirely without yourself knowing it etc.

That is a pretty sensitive and thoughtful post from you hiphop, I don't know if I've seen too many of those lying around. And though I've posted here before, another way he can forget is just to take a break from her. Some guy had a pretty intense crush on me last semester, and when we came back this week, it was completely over. Just a month of holidays cleared his head! Haha, I'm glad for him though, I don't know what he saw in me and he's got a really good female friend whom we all suspect has a crush on him and is way more deserving of his affections. So yeah, time out's maybe another option you could consider. Bit hard though if you're all in school together and he sees her everyday.
