How many units for one subject?

How many units all up for the degree, and how many are required for a major and a minor?

Note: In your answers could you explain for both the single arts degree as well as the combined arts degree (in my case the Arts/Laws degree).

Thankyou for the links but I do not totally understand.

I want to within Arts study Politics, Philosophy, Psychology and Japanese. Also I didn't see them say - is a minor 12 units? And also - if I want to do 72 cps but the requirement is 68 can I do this and do the extras over Summer holidays? Is this common?

A minor is made up of 12 credit points. If you want to go over the credit point requirement and delay your graduation, you can. There is no 'specified time' that you have to complete your degree within, if you wanted to do the extra units you simply continue to enroll and complete them during semester as usual, there is no need to do them in the summer holidays.

So there is no way of doing extra credit points without delaying graduation?

If the units were offered through summer school you could, however summer school is very intense.

You mean like, a lot to do in a short amount of time? Also are not many units offerred in Summer School?

Summer School is now called Session 3, you can find a list of units offered here: http://www.coe.mq.edu.au/session3_units.html The list has grown, and there are certain units that will generally be offered so you can plan ahead by enrolling in units that are unlikely to be offered and leave those for session 3.

Note that you are only allowed a maximum of 2 units in Session 3. And yes, you complete the unit in a shorter time frame so it is intensive. But this may suit your study habits.

You can find all this information online, for example, for the Bachelor of Arts, go here: http://www.courses.mq.edu.au/2012/Undergraduate/Degree/Bachelor+of+Arts#WhatYouWillStudy This gives you a list of majors available; click on which ever major you are interested in and that brings you to another page about the major, now click the "what you will study tab" and this will give you a list of required credit points etc, e.g. for anthropology: http://www.courses.mq.edu.au/2012/Undergraduate/Major/Anthropology#WhatYouWillStudy

There are two combined law options the B Arts + LLB or the B Arts - Media + LLB, the B Arts + LLB is here: http://www.courses.mq.edu.au/2012/U...e+degree+of+Bachelor+of+Laws#WhatYouWillStudy

I haven't seen MAQ mention minors anywhere? Do they recognise this? Are there rules on structuring a minor (like there are for majors)? And this question also applies for picking up a few cps less than a minor.

They don't mention it very often, but a minor is half of the credit points of a major - i.e. 12 credit points. (http://www.handbook.mq.edu.au/2011/Majors/UGMajors)

I've looked at MAQ psychology requirements and they're really strict, I don't think a minor in psych would be possible. Does anyone want to verify this claim.. if so please outline the cps I could do to fulfil a psych minor.

If you are looking at Psychology, they have very structured programs which are necessary for accreditation - which degrees are you looking at? The B Arts with the major in Pscyh or the B Science with Psych or the Honours program?

And, totally agree with Asylum - get some academic advice if you have a specific question, you can also consider directing your enquiry to the specific Faculty, if it's Pscyhology you are looking for, you can either contact the Faculty of Human Sciences or the Department of Pscyhology here: http://www.psy.mq.edu.au/contact.htm
